3300 Historic Route 66 Santa Rosa, New Mexico, United States, 88435, 505-472-5412
A good night prepared me for a longer drive today (about 390 miles/625km). Fortunately, the winds that continued most of the morning died down in New Mexico. The beautiful New Mexico flat top rock formations are always a delight. New smooth roads also gave us a relief from yesterday's roads that my dad used to call "planches à laver ...
Santa Rosa, New Mexico, United States averynet... and down through Post and Snyder to overnight at Sweetwater, again in Super Eight motel which we find clean and comfortable without being expensive, around 60-65 bucks a night.

I prepared Lona for it today so although we arrived with sore butts and needing a relax to recover from the sun and the wind and the boredom but in a good mood tonight after another big day of 345 miles, probably 500 k's. After a big lunch a chicken salad ...
Sweetwater Texas, New Mexico, United States artell... thro' the other side had to stop for petrol. By now Lona is desperatly looking for a motel, only to be told the next one was at Santa Rosa 57 miles up the road. By now the co-pilot was not a happy camper, although I got along to Santa Rosa as quick as I could setting the cruise up to 85=140 k's for the next 50 miles. I did not get one lolly, candy for the yanks, back rub or any indication that she ...
Santa Rosa, New Mexico, United States artellWe are on our way to Santa Rosa, NM for our next stop. Santa Rosa is located on historic Route 66. This will be the first time I have officially traveled along this route and I'm kind of excited about it.

I am hoping that the excitement of our Route 66 visit will overshadow the excitement of getting pulled over by the Texas State Police just over the border from Oklahoma in the Texas panhandle. I was one of many victims we ...
Santa Rosa, New Mexico, United States hollyesparza... the day. Then it was to the route 66 museum which was (wait can you guess?)yup it was closed. There was also really werid mountains in New Mexico. They all have flat tops like some one just cut the tops right off of them. So tonight I am in Santa Rosa New Mexico. Tomorrow I am off to Clines Corners which is supposed to have a great gift shop and then off to Albuquerque. Hopefully some things will be open. Until tomorrow.
Santa Rosa, New Mexico, United States marvs66tripLeaving SR after a good night's sleep and breakfast. Hope to be in Amarillo later today. The room art coordinates with the rm colors and if you like dull, dead leaf skeletons, you are in for a treat. The Western on the other hand is across from the Tower Service Station and U-Drop Inn Cafe, a gem of Art Deco styling which has been turned into a museum. Its neon lighting at night takes you back to an era you never really knew, but wish you did!
Shamrock, Texas, United States vulcanrider... hot and sunny day, but as the afternoon passed, the big clouds built again and just before dinner we had a fairly heavy shower. We're not sure if it's just the weather pattern here for this time of year, or the tail end of tropical storm Edouard which Mel learned on the internet yesterday had been battering parts of Texas.

Despite having decided earlier to go back to Albuquerque, by the time we went to bed Neil ...
Santa Rosa, New Mexico, United States thebusmonkeys... stuff & shower before heading to work. I knew the home-bound trip would be hard but had no idea it would be this tough. To complicate things I am having nose bleeds and my finger still has to be covered because it is so sore. Oh well, I will be home on Sunday and the work week will be short with the 4th on Friday. If we get settled early enough I'll post again tomorrow night...
Santa Rosa, New Mexico, United States donabaker... in all those years, and a lot of original old things to show.. And just a lil after that we passed the Texas state line... Visited the Conoco gas station which they used for the movie cars, and the Cadillac Ranch, where someone took 10 old Cadillacs and put them into the ground.. And we got to Mid Point Cafe, 1139 miles to LA and 1139 to Chicago...
Santa Rosa, New Mexico, United States allover... OK was rolling for the most part but the part of Texas that we saw is extremely flat and dry. The soil is frequently red in colour, but at other times sandy and very light in texture. We saw our first wind farms in the vicinity of Amarillo TX and in the same area saw mamoth irrigation systems. The windmills are set up in the middle of vast cotton fields and seem to co-exist quite successfully. Lunch ...
