After 450 miles south, we head east skirting he big city areas and rolling thru the countryside. This post is in between campsites to alert you to a (planned) direction change.
Stopping for lunch at a large rest area east of Bloomington, Illinois, we admire the vast fields and ominous clouds of an impending weather front moving in from the southeast.
Time is getting close for our travels to Italy. We are excited; our adventures will include: Rome, Naples, Sorrento, Pompeii, Florence, Tuscany, Pisa, Venice, Milan and the Italian and Swiss Alps.
Plane and train tickets have been purchased a well as tickets to several historical sights - Vatican, Academy of the Arts (David) and Uffizi Gallery.

We then realised this would be the last glimpse of the Missip that we'd been following for over a week. Now it's onto huge lakes as we go towards Chicago .
Today we caught up with an old friend I'd volunteered with in Melbourne 4 years ago. Gee it was neat to see her again.

... up and mile back that the exhibits are spread over. My final destination for the day was Bloomington where I left the route on Friday. I ate at the Lucca Grill which was founded in 1936 by the Baldini brothers who named it after their home town in Italy. I had fried ravioli followed by the A La Baldini pizza which has sausage, pepperoni, ham, onions, mushroom, green peppers and pepperoncini on a very thin crust - it was fantastic. The Davenports have arrived--we picked them up at the airport--only 30 minutes delayed. Got them checked in at the Hampton Inn & Suites and ate a delicious supper at Destihl--a fairly new restaurant in town. Try it when you're in the neighborhood; there is also one in Champaign. Now we are headed to the train station; Krystal & Trent are our chauffeurs. All aboard!
