Built before railroads, these were superhighways of their time, providing farmers and crafts folk with access to the great rivers and markets. ... br> We then traveled down the Mississippi a little ways and saw one of the dams and locks that control the shipping channel and keep it navigable. They had a beautiful wildflower planting nearby. Those photos came at a cost as the mosquitos were swarming in the hundreds. Besides my getting bit a bunch of times there, we spent the next half hour swatting 'skeeters’ in the truck.
Boy, those chocolates are good.
6/27 Day 6 Travelled from Richmond IN to Davenport IA.
We had an early start for us, about 9:30 AM. Trying out a new pattern of quick breakfast and leave breakfast dishes till after evening meal so we can get on the road a little earlier. Worked so far.
Beautiful travel day, temp in mid 60s to start. Had a little mist to start then cleared up and became sunny as we drove west. About 80 ...
Trip Mileage to this point is 945. Just made it to Davenport, Iowa. Finally found the casino that Pop and Wayne went to years back. So we are parked and getting ready to go in... Isle of Capri. It looks like a Riverboat on the Mississippi River. (Great opportunity to teach the little ones how to spell Mississippi !) pics will ...
... br> So that night we slept in her outside the tow yard trying to figure out what we were going to do - not to mention that the tow had ripped some of the seams on the roof so when it rained the water was coming down in buckets...literally we were using every pan we had to try to catch all of the water...it was humid and miserable..hopefully tomorrow we can get out of Iowa...and I can light the damn motorhome on fire :)
