Route 66 in Missouri ran from Saint Louis to Joplin, often near the current I-44. My Route 66 guidebooks say that the Meramec Caverns were the oldest tourist attraction along Route 66. After the market and driving through the area, I headed for St. Charles, a historic town on the Missouri River. Navigating the freeway system to head northwest was a challenge, even for my GPS as a couple of exits had been renamed and construction in several locations. So many interstates come together in Saint Louis to cross the Mississippi and Missouri... and I feel like I traveled them all today.
