Today we left Shreveport and crossed the Mississippi River at Vicksburg. We turned off the interstate (I-20) shortly after crossing the river and went to the Vicksburg National Military Park. After a lengthy search for an allowed picnicking spot, we enjoyed a picnic and the beautiful day.

We made our way back to the Visitor's Center, watched a movie on the Siege of Vicksburg (see my comments for more details), then drove on ...

... it was a nice, quick stop bringing our total National Park Sites visited together to 92 (our first was in April 2009)! From there, we drove to Canton, MS for yet another Hampton Inn. ... which we popped into the car CD player and began the driving tour beginning with the Union lines and ending with the Confederate lines. Along the way we stopped at many stops, such as memorials, redoubts, etc. The most interesting stop was the ironclad Cairo which was recovered back in the 1960s.
