What a fun day! This morning Jaimie, Ruby, Chrissy and I drove to Chicago. It's about a two-hour drive from Normal. At first we talked about taking the train. Too expensive. Then we talked about driving to one of the suburbs and parking, then taking the commuter train. Still too expensive. So we figured we would just park in a lot and pay the parking fee - we figured on about $25 for the day. In the meantime, Ruby is texting her friend Marc in LA who used to live and work ...
Originally I published this entry to get the starting location for our trip. Then I noticed it got a lot of hits, so here's my saga of packing.
When did packing become so hard? I seem to recall when I was younger I'd slam dunk things in the suitcase in one hour and be ready to go. Over the years, packing seems to have exploded into a multi-day, tension-filled process.

We have adapted very quickly to this climate, but wouldn't want to live here.
We found a New Orleans restaurant, and had a mountain of Bourbon Chicken for lunch, then caught the train ...
After a late start, a major traffic jam on I-55 over the Kankakee River (1 hour for 3 miles) and a wrong turn by Busch Stadium, we arrived at our campsite at 8:30.
Despite the crummy drive – there were bright spots. We saw several pristine vintage cars while driving I-55 (part of historic Route 66). A 1967 Camero Super Sport convertible in jewel tone turquoise breezed by on the ...
