Today we drove to Cades Cove in Smoky Mountain National Park. Because it was through the mountains, the road was slow but picturesque. We stopped at a picnic area for lunch, then continued on towards the Cades Cove loop. Part way along the loop, we hiked to the Abrams Falls. About a 5 m hike ...

Today we drove through the center of the park. We did a short trail walk in the afternoon and then headed to Clingman's dome (6643ft high) for sunset - around 5:30. There were snow banks on the sides of the road as we drove up to Clingman's dome trailhead. At times along the way, you would see little snowmen that people would have built. They had an early snowfall 2 days ...

... Great Smokey Mountains so we left our car parked near Knoxville and piled in together again

The scenery here was breathtaking and we drove a partial loop until we stopped in an open field for a picnic lunch. Unfortunately we had a long drive ahead to our next destination so Robbie drove us back to the car and we headed off.

We really loved this part of Tennessee, my only regret is not being hungry enough to stop at one of the many roadside ...

Good news. We did wake up and weren't violated by the redneck Bud screamed at last night. The morning was humid, foggy, and overcast. We took scenic route 50 through the beautiful Tennessee countryside to Lynchburg, home of the Jack Daniels Distillery. We started at the Iron Kettle with a breakfast of southern sausage gravy over buttermilk biscuits and home fries swimming ...
