... it extremely easy on both the ascent and descent. Reaching I-70 there was a backup of traffic to get onto the interstate, the system of traffic lights only allowing one car at a time to enter the interstate was the cause. Once on I-70 east we were stuck in a traffic jam for several miles, and then for no apparent reason the traffic started to roll again. Approaching our destination of “Golden CO” we again encountered a long hill climb with a severe grade, ...

... Bill' (real name 'William Frederic Cody) was buried up there and 20,000 people walked up the mountain to see it. There was apparently a fuss about where he should have been buried, with two other sites claiming him, and later on, the grave was covered in concrete to stop anyone taking the body away.

Left Golden CO. This morning, last leg of the trip, 800 miles via I 70East. Silos, hay bales & corn fields our scenery for the next 2 days. Made it all the way to Paxico KS. 97 degrees here! Since we got to our site I think we have counted 6 trains have gone by. These campgrounds don't list things like that!! Anyway pretty excited that we will be back home by tomorrow afternoon, has been a great trip but there's no place like ...

... the Red Rocks Ampitheatre. I have never been and wasn't aware it was open to the public during non-event times. It truly is a beautiful space and I would love to see a show here sometime. We lucked out and heard the band, Queens of the Stone Age, doing the sound check for their show tonight which allowed us to hear the amazing acoustics. We walked to the top which provided a view ...

      We arrived in Golden, Colorado

A travel blog entry by dolestrada on Jun 18, 2013

... at points has a dense forest . The route we took using the I-70 had the Colorado River run along much of the interstate. It is June and in the higher elevations, especially in Vail and north of Vail, there were still patches of snow. We tried to get a campsite in both Vail and Breckenridge, didn't work, either no vacancy or much to expensive. So we are heading to Golden, Co. To see if we can extend our reservation to cover ...
