Fort-de-France, Région Martinique, Martinique jackpotAfter our delightful stay on Bequia, we undertook our first overnight sail with Ellis aboard. He chose to stay outside in the cockpit all night - partly to watch the stars and partly to avoid a queasy stomach. We had a great sail and arrived in St. Lucia early morning. We only stayed in St. Lucia long enough for a few long walks and provisioning. We wanted to spend some extra time on the French island of Martinique before we 180'd our direction to enjoy the Mardi ...
Martinique, Martinique questmiller... of the south, with steep hills and dark volcanic rock and sand lining the shores. However once ashore it was actually a charming little fishing village that had been destroyed by a volcano some 20 years ago. The old church was rebuilt and parts of the village, but most was just stuck back together in a ramshackle way. Fortunately we were there on a Saturday morning and were very impressed by their fresh food market along the shore front one of the best we've seen.
Fort De France, Martinique bellavita... four days later. He later went on tour with the Barnum and Bailey Circus. Not sure what would have been worse. It was time to head south, and we set our sights on the capital of Fort-de-France for an easy check out. After stocking up on wonderful French wines, cheeses and sausages, we had an early morning departure for St. Lucia. The nicest thing about sailing in the West Indies is the proximity of the islands. It was about 30 ...
Le Marin, Martinique questmiller16/04/08, Wednesday, 18:00, St. Pierre, Martinique Had a nice sail up here today - the wind and current were with us. Mountains here are great. Virgin Mary statue overlooking the town. Watched a pod of dolphins play in clear water on our bow. They were so close, I could hear them breathe when they surfaced.

Fort-de-France, France jaguar74... it is easy to say that I am easily falling into speaking this difficult language and I know that one day it will be as easy and no one will question me! (Thinking...please come soon). :) Right now, I have my last class tomorrow and then my class is going Kayaking in the Mangroves for the afternoon. I am really excited! For the rest of my stay, I will be spending my time either working on my paper (all in French) and at the beach ...
Schoelcher, Martinique jess06... This coming Saturday, my class is going South. I am really excited to go swimming in the ocean! I like my classes and my group. They are amazing people. For most, this is their first time abroad and it is kind of fun to be able to help them with the little things that we all miss when we are away from home. I like helping people with it too. I want to write more later but for now, this is it. :) Until next time...
Fort-de-France, Martinique jess06... all the way as well. Elaine and Roger decided to give Martin a break on our trip down river and they rowed. While they did, Martin fashioned beautiful birds for Elaine and me out of reeds. That evening we went into the Purple Turtle for dinner only to find that the entire area had a power failure so we returned to our boats and enjoyed our local produce instead. The next morning Martin picked us up at the boats and took us to shore to meet his partner Jeff who was our guide for ...
Fort de France, Martinique freespirit2006Back on Martinique. Hired a car. Drove round the island. Stayed for a few days at a banana plantation. Went all over to the old capital, under the vulcano. Visited churches, beaches and museums. I swam in huge waves and saw fish dancing in the sea. Then the waves turned on me and chrashed me into the sandbed. Scratched and bleeding I saw the rest of the day from the ...
