      Neuschwanstein Castle

A travel blog entry by jlmcclure on Oct 27, 2014

Up and about at 7am and after some brekky we took a taxi to Hauptbahnhof (Central Station), where we started our tour to King Ludwig's castle. It is believed this castle is the idea behind Walt Disney's Snow White castle. The castle is quite a way out of Munich so off we go. First onto a train with our guide and our 7 other tour people, all English speaking, good start! We were on the first train for about 15 mins and then we were all ushered off and onto another train for about ...

... lunch menu), then headed back to Munich on the 2pm train. Thanks to random German railway work, our 2-hour train ride home became 3.5 when the engineer realized the tracks were closed. We transferred to another train....to a bus...to another train. To say the adventure lacked German efficiency is most certainly an understatement.

What Mozart is to Salzburg, so Ludwig II is to Bavaria. That truth exposes itself seemingly around every corner of this magical, fairy-tale countryside, but most assuredly when in the proximity of one of his famous castles. He became "King" at age 18, although "king" must be understood in the context of a constitutional monarchy, one in which he did not have the absolute power he so desired. In fact, it was his obsession with the power of a prior ...

Zugspitz - the highest peak in Germany

A travel blog entry by astre on Oct 03, 2014

... cold air invaded the train. At the plateau we took pictures. The non-glacier side was covered with fog. We didn't see the free slides or we would have done it earlier. We then took a cable car to go to the top of the peak. The trail to the summit cross was very treacherous so we didn't do it. We took pictures at a distance. It was still kind of foggy ...
