today we gave the kids a break from traveling and took them to the local town of Parsberg (which is not on the travelpod map, so i selected the next closest town available which is Hohenfels where the military base is). for a scavenger hunt jen created for them...which kept them occupied and excited. we walked thru town, up the hill to the ...
Parsberg, Bavaria, Germany mlbates29Lost on the Romantic Road ....... sounds better than it was!!!
There is a road that runs from Wurzburg and winds through tiny 16th century villages, past rivers and churches for 250km or so to the Bavarian mountains. We had hired a car in Whurzburg to travel this road over a couple of days. We saw some beautiful scenery and visited many little churches (they have their own atmosphere apart from the grand cathedrals we have visited in the major cities.

Today we visited the tiny walled town of Berching...about 30 mins west of Parsburg. Berching is a historical town with a fully preserved town wall that was rebuilt in 1350...the first settlement was registered in 883, that it is more than 1100 years old! the wall is interspaced with towers and one of the towers has been converted into a 6-story apartment. the Rhine ...

On the way back to here we visited a cousin who I have never met and stayed for 2 days, took a day trip to visit an uncle of Hannah's and had wonderful cakes and coffee and then drove to near Munich to visit my beautiful cousin Maria (the one who always reminds me of you Gail). We left her place about 8pm and only drove a few kms onto the autobahn and got caught up in a STAU. Luckily it was evening because we might have ...
... it) regalia. You know it was the guys in embroidered shorts and suspenders and the girls dressed like Heidi. The next couple of towns that we stopped in had even more board the train until almost two cars were full of them. I don't know if that's what they do for fun around here, ride around on the train dressed like that, but I certainly don't see that in Redding. Eventually we reached some small town where they all got off. Some ...
Fussen, Bavaria, Germany dlittle001... ice go-karting because it was such a hit the first time round!! This place really is surreal and such an awesome way to finish our trip. On Saturday we're off to Hong Kong and Disneyland and on Wednesday we're home!! It has been an amazing holiday but I think we'll all be happy to land back at home and catch up with everybody. Hope you all have a wonderful New Year and we'll see you soon. Love to everyone, Mat, Jenn and the girls xxxx
Fuessen, Bavaria, Germany snowywerners... women. All the information in the room was in German and the reception desk was not manned at the time. C'est la vie! After breakfast we headed off again - this time north to Munich. This drive was magnificent as we travelled through a number of smaller townships. Some were small farming communities where the road went right through the middle. Others seemed to be larger villages with some surprisingly large ornate buildings. We ...
Fussen, Bavaria, Germany 4fromozDAY 6 THU The Medi Nait had no effect. I was in the grip of a serious case of grippe. Ever the soldier I resolved to carry on regardless. In reality I had little choice as I had reserved our tour of Schloss Neuschwanstein many months ago and would have made the tour by ambulance rather than forfeit the twenty euro ticket price. The train from Munich to Füssen took two hours. I had planned to spend time exploring Füssen (where our ...
