    We left Cappadocia and headed south and soon were climbing into the mountains, highest point of the road was 1500m. I took a shot through the windscreen, for the impression, but they were really spectacular and snow-capped. The Turkish toll roads are also really really good, almost no traffic and beautifully smooth.     ... but I never once felt at threat and had no qualms leaving Allan outside a shop. At times the firing questions were more tiring than the cycling and with no one speaking English I had to guess which question I was being asked - where is my wife? do i have children? what is my job? Eventually tho it taught me some Turkish and I could answer them properly.

    ... here was to visit St. Paul's well built in Roman times and sitting beside what is considered, by some, as the site of his family home (which can be seen at ground level under a glass platform). Somehow St. Paul's Church, which was included in our itinerary, was skipped.

    An early start: 6.15 breakfast, on the road by 7am.
    Crossing the river via Kennedy Bridge we got a quick sighting of Taskopru (a Roman era stone bridge built by Hadrian, early C2). Nearby, the six minarets of Sabanci Merkez Camii, the largest mosque between Istanbul & Saudi Arabia, bulit by one of Turkey's richest industrialists.
    It would have been nice to spend a while absorbing the energy of this town but, unfortunately, we had no time to dally ...
