“Four star hotel without air conditioning?”

This hotel was in quite a good location and in reasonable condition, but it seemed strange that our room wouldn't have air conditioning in a city like Ulaanbaatar which can reach temperatures in the 40's Celsius in summer. Even stranger was how this place earned an apparent four star rating. We needed to open all the windows and balcony door which unfortunately would then encourage bugs into the room, and resulted in a very poor night of sleep. This hotel consisted of two towers - one which appeared to have air conditioning, so I can't understand why ours was without.

Today we woke up in our ger, had breakfast and then began the two hour drive to U.B. We arrived at 11:30ish, dropped our stuff in our room, grabbed a map and set off. We began with the national museum it was huge, it took us about two hours, it was all about the nomads ands the history of how Mongolia …
Oh S**t its the wrong train, leg it!!

Eventually we found the mongolian rugs, the one thing we most sought after. We nearly accidently bought a massive rug (over 3m squared and pink and blue) for 75000T, the man …
A hot shower!!
We thankfully set off at a civilised time back to UB, after breakfast. The drive this time was in the light (it had been early morning and still dark when we had driven in), and it was interesting to see the scenery! Lots of Ger villages and mining places on the road back to the capital. We were due to be going to the monastery that had been …
If Genghis Khan, so can we.
It was cool being able to visit another country today – particularly one listed as one of the world's least visited countries. Also it will make a nice change from Russia, where we were constantly wary of being harrassed by corrupt policemen. Quite strange how it was actually the police and not the criminals we were cautious of.
We …
