    We'd definitely stay here again

We love the Bay of Palms Resort and have stayed here previously.

What we like about it is that you can choose to stay in a Studio, 1 B/R OR 2 B/R apartment for a lot less than one of the chain motels closer to the beaches and high end shopping at Surfers.

The resort in a quiet location at the southern end of the Gold Coast but close to a shopping mall where you can walk to and buy all your food, drink etc or take away meals if you like. You can also walk to the Sports Club for a meal or arrange transport to the local RSL Club.

Access to the Pacific Motorway is pretty easy from here.

Surprisingly with all these places so close to the resort, there is no noise...but back to the resort.

We chose a 1 B/R apartment for our stay this time and again overlooked the lagoon (or maybe it was a canal). A very nice peaceful view. We had a leather lounge, large flat screen TV, large dining table to seat 6 people, small kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, stove / oven and plenty of cupboard space stocked with a dinner set, bowls, cutlery, saucepan, toaster and electric kettle, floor mop and broom. There was a small but adequate bathroom and a double bed in the bedroom as well as a wardrobe. Inside the wardrobe there was a vacuum cleaner and a small heater.

The resort provides some basic necessities such as one towel p/p, a roll or two of toilet paper, two small hand soaps, and a sachet of dishwashing detergent. You can buy more of these from reception or from the shopping mall or bring your own.

Although we didn't use it, there is a laundry available too - around $3 per wash + detergent and around $3 per dryer. Again we didn't use this but there is a swimming pool and BBQ area in a central courtyard with tropical plantings. Near Reception is a bar which and a small restaurant - neither of which we tried as we were too busy.

Parking on site is primarily in the open - there is limited parking under a carport for those renting 1 or 2 B/R apartment.

    Bats and Bloodsuckers

... As dusk fell, the huge flying fox bats swung over the garden, their mighty wings flapping gently. Ben took up the challenge of photographing these hunters on their way to work. He used the digital photographer cheat's technique of taking a hundred photos and hoping that a handful would turn out alright and was rewarded with a couple of good snaps. However, the price he paid was to become dinner for hoards of Currumbin's mosquitoes. They have never eaten so ...

We made our way to Cararra Markets so I could get some fresh fruit to take to Lloyd and Tracy's place.

We also wanted to check out a couple of retailers such as the place where we always buy containers, wash cloths, paper towels etc - they are so cheap and we can buy in bulk which ...

    Is this the perfect tenant?

After Cath discussed our pending trip with a friend, the friend in conversation mentioned it to one of their friends. Well, if they are going away, do they need someone to rent their house while they are gone they asked? One thing led to another, and we found what on face value seemed to be the perfect tenant. As we are not certain of how long we will be gone, we reluctantly agreed to ...

The alarm woke us up so we could get up and be on our way by 9am … again that was the plan tho' Doug was worried about "peak hour" in Armidale. I told him we were in the country … not the city.

While I was showering, he disappeared … no idea where he went and then he came back into the room and told me he’d been cleaning the car !! What ??? Well apparently it was covered with ice. He said it was ...

... was to the breakwater and marina at Alexandra Heads. We also had a day trip to Coolum and we loved this area too but still a little built up for us to settle so Cotton tree was the highlight for us and is part of our property search.

Rainbow Beach was our next stop 8th - 11th May
Bucketing down when we arrived!!! Beautiful little spot , walk to everything, surf club overlooking the water, great for watching dolphins play. Small but ...
