    We'd definitely stay here again

We love the Bay of Palms Resort and have stayed here previously.

What we like about it is that you can choose to stay in a Studio, 1 B/R OR 2 B/R apartment for a lot less than one of the chain motels closer to the beaches and high end shopping at Surfers.

The resort in a quiet location at the southern end of the Gold Coast but close to a shopping mall where you can walk to and buy all your food, drink etc or take away meals if you like. You can also walk to the Sports Club for a meal or arrange transport to the local RSL Club.

Access to the Pacific Motorway is pretty easy from here.

Surprisingly with all these places so close to the resort, there is no noise...but back to the resort.

We chose a 1 B/R apartment for our stay this time and again overlooked the lagoon (or maybe it was a canal). A very nice peaceful view. We had a leather lounge, large flat screen TV, large dining table to seat 6 people, small kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, stove / oven and plenty of cupboard space stocked with a dinner set, bowls, cutlery, saucepan, toaster and electric kettle, floor mop and broom. There was a small but adequate bathroom and a double bed in the bedroom as well as a wardrobe. Inside the wardrobe there was a vacuum cleaner and a small heater.

The resort provides some basic necessities such as one towel p/p, a roll or two of toilet paper, two small hand soaps, and a sachet of dishwashing detergent. You can buy more of these from reception or from the shopping mall or bring your own.

Although we didn't use it, there is a laundry available too - around $3 per wash + detergent and around $3 per dryer. Again we didn't use this but there is a swimming pool and BBQ area in a central courtyard with tropical plantings. Near Reception is a bar which and a small restaurant - neither of which we tried as we were too busy.

Parking on site is primarily in the open - there is limited parking under a carport for those renting 1 or 2 B/R apartment.

We slept well last night despite the apartment not having total block out linings in the curtains …comfy bed and pillows and I was out like a light. We set the alarm so we would wake up and then be on our way to Mullumbimby. Our aim today is the Crystal Castle which I've heard about and seen photos of – and to go to …

Up and at 'em early as we were meeting friends at Robina Shopping Centre at 10.30am – we wanted to get there early just in case there was traffic problems or simply getting lost in the vast Robina Shopping Centre.

It was all good tho' .. we met up with Chris and Bob and from the time we met til …

After wrapping up Christmas and birthday presents, we put them in our car boot so the grandkids couldn't see them. We then left our apartment and then over to Robina shopping centre for a coffee and to buy a BBQ chicken, salad and bread rolls to take to Lloyd and Tracy’s house for lunch.

... they can't ask you for money if you're not a local. Apparently this guy didn't know that. I wandered on up to the Vox office and stepped in to see Stacey and Leroy. Leroy got me measured up for costumes etc and we then walked through the forms I'd filled in briefly. I asked him a few questions and then left, hoping for the best. The meeting was brief, but hopefully a poignant turning point in paving my future. It's hard to tell right now, but ...

    Day 98

The first thing to wake us this Christmas morning was the sound of the kookaburras in the gum trees by the creek! Rob and Jane call them the 'Essex Birds' because they're so loud. We went back to sleep for a bit before Ben went downstairs to make tea and Korina opened some beautiful cards in bed. When he discovered that Santa had been, Rob wasted no time in waking up all three boys. Some were more enthusiastic about this than others! Luckily for us, Santa is pretty ...
