    ... and after the bad start things got a whole lot better and I really got to like the country, its people and to enjoy the places I saw, even if was slightly rushed. It has an incredible wealth of history and sights which means there's plenty more to come back and see and I hope someday I will.

    I'd debated coming back through the Mont Blanc tunnel against the far longer but much prettier option of going over the mountain pass. To tick it off the list I decided to go for ...

    ... hotel that does not open on Sunday. We took the car along to the depot and found that there was a box on the side of the building where keys could be left if the office was not open. We were just about to leave the car and keys when two men came out of the office - they were doing a bit of extra work and saw us and we were able to hand the keys over to them and they put the car away. Phew!!!!
    Tomorrow morning we catch the train back to London.

    So the journey begins!

    The weather on Thursday morning was a bit overcast and drizzly as we drove out of Cardiff heading west towards the Welsh Town, Neath, where Bruce’s great great grandmother, Margaret Jenkins was born in the early 1800s. The town is, of course, much larger now and after negotiating narrow winding streets in the centre of town we headed off in search of the second town on our list.
