Well rested

We have spent the last week in Phuket, Thailand resting and relaxing. The first few days we were in Patong Beach while Rick recovered. Once he was feeling better we were able to do some shopping and sightseeing. We decided to move from the Royal Palm Resort Hotel to the Baumanburi resort as it was cheaper and had a cool looking pool. It had a swim up bar and these cool built in spa recliner seats. We made sure a cocktail and swim was had before dinner every night. We also both got a tradition...

8th Aug 07:- Reach Phuket airport via Air Asia about 1.15pm (1 hr behind M'sia time). Take taxi from airport to Patong Province, Baumanburi hotel, take about 1hr+. 420 Baht each taxi for 4 ppls shared. Hotel rate is RM 152+ per twin sharing room per head for 3 nights. It's so cheap right? 8 of us went for FantaSea shows for 1300 Baht per person, including return transportation from hotel, buffet dinner and the shows. It's worth to have a look if you never see it before. Suggest you to go earl...

... was also a bonus. Plenty of choice, buffet style and the pool was clean and pleasant to surround, although small in size.

This was only the 2nd stop outside the english speaking world (after Mexico) and it was soon clear that trading is everything in this place. A short walk down the road exposed you to a succession of invitations to buy everything from wallets and beads from the barrow boys to massage treatments from the girls outside the parlours and ...

... Bangkok and headed to Sunset Bar for happy hour drinks and snacks. After showeirng we went to the famous Thai restaurant, The Red Onion. Lauren and Stacy walked out of here full but with burning hot lips from the SPICY curry! This evening we walked around to the markets and purchased a few pillow cases and such before heading home. Sunday morning we went to the Golden Sands pool from about 9 to 12 before returning to pack up our bags. The minibus picked us up at 1pm ...

... carrying shrines and this was probably the maddest part of it, they had bangers and encouraged people to throw bangers at it! At the end of the festival they had a fireworks display, unnofficial display. The fireworks started at half seven and didn't finish until one o' clock. The fireworks was the best display I have ever seen. The fireworks was located beside the different temples in the town and the best viewing point was in standing on a round a bout so that's where we were.

... hand to take food. That was our favorite part. The name of the guide on our boat was "Indy". He was funny!! We traveled to and from the islands on high powered speedboats. We won't make it there this trip, but just north of the islands is James Bond island (named after a James Bond film). We got back to our hotel about 5:30, then took advantage of 100 baht (about 3 dollars) cocktails during Happy Hour at "Eddy's" (a local dive that is NOT our hotel food ...

... at this hotel and am hoping that the next hotel we're staying at is a huge improvement. The Patong Merlin is a well established and busy hotel in a great location. It's old and very tired compared to its neighbours and desperately needs the renovation which it is undergoing. Unfortunately for us we're not accommodated in the renovated section although the rooms are clean and adequate. The main problem for us are the OTHER hotel guests - all ...

Hvil i fred.

Day 1 Thailand - Day 17 of the trip

Today was another early start. It was a day full of travel. Joy. Helda's flight to Singapore was at 9am, mine to Thailand was at 11.20am. I decide to just go to the airport with Helda at 7am, id rather be there with her than in Vietnam by myself. So in a cab by 6.30am we head off, so very happy to be leaving, singing and smiling once again. After 4hrs of hanging around the airport and eating oreas for breakfast (left over from my oreo dinner on ...
