I prefered my other one!

... It is 80 percent open 24 hours a day so it's easily done...and in a room without a window and a broken alarm clock it's just a case of whatever whenever (which reminds me i must find my second alarm clock...). Day started off about 1 ish and i took a couple of ferries around hong kong and just walked...simples....everywhere and anywhere it's just so breathtaking from whereever you are and if you stick near the coast then your always a ferry (20p) ride away from homeish so its all good ...

A lost world slowly coming to the fore

... prayer hall with an incredible sand mandala (multi-coloured and housed in a covered unit), with a Sakyamuni chapel within. On an upper floor, Tsongkhapa's funeral chorton looks absolutely incredible, lavished with silver and gold. Unfortunately the Red Guards destroyed the original tomb and preserved body, so the new one houses only the skull fragments found afterwards. Locals were also selling laminated pictures of the chorton & there were urns of yak butter ...

Happy Xmas Beers & Noodles 2008 Mate

... was to be a dance performance that evening. Before I left the office I mentioned the silk dresses to the other English Teachers and they raced about trying to find out why the beauties were dressed so. I then hinted that I already knew and that I would love to attend the dance and happily I was promised that a ticket would be hunted down for me. Several hours later I got a call to come to the door and waiting for ...

Headed home

... bus up and running again and we made it back to Jingdezhen without anymore delay. We arrived about 1 am Saturday morning. Lets just say that it was a long trip and I was glad to be back, but I did really enjoyed the trip to Yixing. It encouraged me to finally start working on more intricate pots rather than just simple bottles, cups, and bowls. It was amazing to see all of the different teapot shapes and sizes. I hope to make some of my own little teapots in the next week or 2.

Walking The Ancient Xian City Walls

... is the main entrance to the city. The wall connects Jianlou and Zhenglou Towers. The area between them within the wall was called 'Wong Cheng', in which the soldiers stationed. From Wong Cheng, there are sloped horse passages leading to the top of the city wall. Initially, the wall was built with layers of dirt, with the base layer including also lime and glutinous rice extract. Throughout the time ...

This was an outdoor indoor place where there was like 3 different people singing...some in English and some in Chinese.... hen I was in the mood to dance so we went to this MEGA club called SOS...I mean it was huge....like 4 stories of club and we were like celebrities and it was nice....people were giving us drinks left and right...they tend to drink whiskey over here and the use green tea to mix it with. (it was actually not bad at all) Got home kind of late but it sure was worth it!!!

the Singri-la

... spot the Pearl Lake. It was raining hard when we arrived there. We took shelter in a hut nearby and then returned. Early next morning before dawn I hiked again to the Pearl Lake but I lost my way. Luckily I met a boy who guided me along the road. I saw the snow mountains at daybreak with a clear reflection on the lake. Then the porter came again. She carried my luggage and we hiked to another snow mountain. She ...

Skullcaps and Noodle Eating Notherners

... the west, we are so west we are on the edge of town! We needed a map! We headed out of the 'Whatever Bus Station' and crossed two sets of unused train tracks and found a huge over pass. Here we turned left and found a bank before then searching for south Chinas staple diet 'Rice'. We did we search for rice and not eat noodles. Same reason as now (many days later). You can ask 5 million times NOT to have chilli ...

Along the Silt Route-that's NOT a spelling mistake

... a spherical top, about 30 metres high, of mud bricks set at different angle and depths to give a patterned and textured appearance. The minaret has some interesting iron bands around it about halfway up, and is too fragile for tourists to use it regularly. The attached mosque is also of mud brick construction, but the flat, tapered walls are faced with a straw/clay render, which is quite smooth, but not all that well attached to the underlying structure. Pay ...
