      ... seen at some distance from the flame of the unknown soldier. We then crossed the Neva river and saw the fortress. The comfort stop at a tourist shop was welcome and we did find a trinket for the Christmas tree. It is a wooden cut out of the Bronze Horseman. The coach dropped us off at the Nevsky Prospect. We found a bureau de change and then used the metro to return to the hotel. After lunch and a rest we returned to the Metro and ...

      A pretty good second leg. Had dinner, everyone slept and the 9.5 hrs went reasonably quickly. All tired though - fingers crossed we survive today. Landed 40 mins early to sunshine but only 8 degrees. Someone fell ill on the flight so we now have paramedics walking down the aisle and ambulances around the plane - not sure what happened.

      ... should be awarded some sort of Nobel Prize. Gib and I sit down to discuss a strategy should the plane go down somewhere over the Middle East but we struggle to get past "soil yourself and hope for the best..." We take our seats and the mood is different from most flights I've been in, in that people actually seem relaxed.       ... until 4.40 this afternoon. Just checked in using the BA app - so no queuing at Heathrow - virtual tickets now displayed on my iPhone !! Just got to Heathrow terminal 5 and dropped in the bags and just been free upgraded - wow - now in what's called "club world class". Business class to everyone else !!
