    ... slaying a fearsome beast to redeem the hero's honour,
    - a belief that they are the fires that lit the first Olympic torch - after all, Mount Olympos is just up the road (The Greeks dispute that one)
    - to the scientific explanation of gases escaping from metamorphic rock.
    Whichever way you look at it, the fact that the fires have burnt for eons is "magic" and we're lucky to have seen it before the gas runs out.

    ... the top,a series of flames, like campfires, flickered out of cracks between the rocks. He said that if you dig, you could create another hole with flames coming out.     ... dark wood and high mildewed ceilings in the old part of town. My room was guarded by two mannequins dressed in traditional clothing. They didn't freak me out at all.     ... dark for 40 minutes we arrived at the site,were given torches and told to walk up the mountain for 20 minutes. Like doing the thousand steps without the well formed steps and in the dark. When we arrived the flames, although an interesting phenomenon were a bit like sitting around campfires. Still, glad we saw it.

    Received more sad news. Our beautiful pet pooch, Ziggy has passed away. The house won't be the same without her. ��

    After a late start again, we head for the beach and then a short trek to the eternal flames of Olympos. Breakfast includes omelettes, I am not sure how, but they are the best I have ever had. Maybe it's because they have chickens and the eggs are fresh. A slice of melon to cleanse the pallet, and it's all action stations, we joined Jay, Kate Alex and Jill.
