Rio Branco y Francia, Parada 9 Punta del Este, Uruguay, -, 42-578403
We took a trip to Uruguay to Punta del Este, a beautiful beach town in Uruguay. I had delicious fish called merluza negra--- think this is Chilean Sea Bass at Cafe del Torre. Hilarious that since I was one of the first four tables there I got 40% off, realize that I got there at 8:45pm, which is very early by standards here. The Barrancas hotel allowed us to use their bikes, so I zipped around the entire point several times and it was my general means of transport. At Mamboclub there was ...

Punta del Este, Maldonado Department, Uruguay rayner... new. We ate lunch on the beach. Beautiful, red, ripe and juicy tomato sandwiches. Real tomatoes, with flavor and soft skins, not genetically modified to travel well.

We pulled over to have a photo session at the 'fingers in the sand' monument, at the beach at Punte Del Este and could hardly get away from all the people who were interested in our trip. We had so many photos taken of us, on cameras and on mobile phones, it was getting ...
Punta del Este, Maldonado Department, Uruguay jennykelly... driven just over 100 kms to get to the town of Maldando, which again has a large campsite in the area. The tourist office was closed when we arrived, but we managed to get directions to the campsite. Once again it is a huge place, although this time about 2 kms from the beach and about 5 to town.

2nd - Another very quiet and relaxed day.

Pictures are for the house in next entry.
Maldonado, Maldonado Department, Uruguay mikeandmary... Picasso still alive??), met Che Guevara and apparently has been asked to paint all these Middle Eastern palaces- very pretty place! And now for the cultural observations: * They are OBSESSED with mate!!! (pronounced ma-te)- this is basically a herbal tea that they drink out of this thing that looks like a bong. it is very communal (you pass it around). but its a HOT drink and all over the beach and on the bus you see people just carrying around their little bong ...

GO CUBS!!!!!! this is the year, i can feel it.
Punta del Este, Uruguay ruizespieces... of it but luckily for me I don`t have to force anything because I see Amanita (the 15 year old, which is contradictory to what I just said, but it`s different since she isn`t like a complete stranger that I walk up to on the beach and just start talking to) on the sidewalk as I am walking and we hang out for awhile and then Jane rolls up on a bike and then a good friend of Amanita`s strolls up and now I am having a good time. We all hang out and tell ...
Piriapolis, Uruguay merkdog4... The rich and famous are there all the time, so we fitted in well with our backpacks and gringo-outfits. Friday we took a bus over to Piriapolis, another beach resort. This one had ski chairlift up the side of a large hill, from which you could overlook the curve of the bay. We walked back down and encountered some monstrous wildlife...
Punta del Este, Uruguay esteban... about California, I asked her where she was from, and as it turns out she went to Cal. I said, 'oh, Cool, I went to Stanford!' and she replied, 'Oh.' She didn't speak a word to me after that. I later inferred that she was a cheerleader at Cal, which I suppose explains the plastic appearance and vindictive school spirit. She was just that type of cheerleader pretty, and I hate to say it, that type of cheerleader vapid. Her friends were nice though. Two nights in ...
