... t and we have to be 'found’ by an service agent who huffs and puffs at us as if we are errant schoolchildren – and totally unable to understand why we were not at the gate for boarding.<br><br>We have travelled to Canaima as the hopping point to the Angel Falls – the highest waterfall in the world, yet Canaima itself was a waterfall experience par excellence. At Canaima camp the Rio Carrao tumbles and crashes over 6 waterfalls called ‘Saltos’ in the ...
Canaima National Park, Guayana Highlands, Venezuela suenson_taylors... Bolívar to Canaima was around an hour and gave us some spectacular views. <br><br>At the airport we were greeted by our guide, Jorge, who was born and grew up in Canaima National Park. He informed us that there had been no rain for 4 days, so the river might be quite low and we may have to push the boat some of the way. Lack of rain also meant that Angel Falls was quite thin, but we were assured that it never dries out ...
Canaima National Park, Guayana Highlands, Venezuela vickicooper... headed for Cuidad Bolivar and upon arrival I had no time to think I was in Ruben the tour guides office. "Pay and then we are off....", I was a little skeptical,<br>"I have not even looked at the competition", although I did check in lonley planet and the price was about right and this company was referenced so "vamos"!<br><br>Rush through the airport and climb into this 6 seater plane with funny looking ...
Canaima, Bolívar, Venezuela jameskanga... to walk. You are rewarded at the top by a beautiful close up view of the falls --- and most special of all, the chance to swim in a pool right underneath the Falls. The water is cold and the power of the water evident: it was the most stunning moment to be up there in the middle of no where.<br><br>We stayed over night in the basic hammock camps that are located along the river. During our visit we also got to walk to ...
Canaima National Park, Guayana Highlands, Venezuela ellie_cross... falls where Renee preceded to slip and fall on the stones (no serious injury though!). The whole group jumped in for a swim even though it was quite cold, just to say we had swum at the base of the highest waterfall in the world! We headed back the view point (with no slippages) and got a better view of the falls as the clouds had burnt off. It really was an amazing waterfall to see in person and one of those must see things if you come to ...
Canaima National Park, Guayana Highlands, Venezuela eugenecash... bad and the entire boat all its contents and people seemed to be totally submerged for a second or two. The hilarious part is though that there is no warning or anything, bad luck for anyone who may have been taking a photo at this point. Even funnier was that after we had finished spitting out water, ringing out hair and reassembling hats and sunglasses which were knocked of our blocks with the force of the blast, as if nothing ...
Canaima National Park, Guayana Highlands, Venezuela theblakes... get myself some local admirers which was an interesting one to get out of as 4 of them took a real shine to me.......suspect it is my british passport again, and not necessarily my wit, humour and charm! Venezuela has to be one of the most expensive places I have been. The police, national guards and military just walk the strets with massive guns and pistols in their pockets, all a bit daunting really. Lots of love Tracey xxx
Canaima National Park, Guayana Highlands, Venezuela traceywilson... if she could ask him if he had a spare suduko game she could play (all you at Metso know about Karrinas passion for Suduko). Adam said no. It should be noted that Karrina went on to tell many shocked people this story, only to have adam correct her in telling them he tricked her!! There was no Suduko!! The pilot was flying a ******* plane for gods sake!!!!!!!!!! Highly embarassing. Karrina: Note to self- Do not under any circumstances trust your fiance. EVER!
Canaima National Park, Guayana Highlands, Venezuela karrina... water is crystal clear and not as cold as we thought it might be. If you swim into the middle of the channel the current is very strong. I found a boulder sitting just under the waters surface there and managed to stand up, from there I was directly at the centre of the falls looking up, it was incredible though interestingly it looks much higher from further away, which must be a trick on the eye. The sun had begun to come out so we headed back to the look out ...
