... kites. There were flags of many nations at the entrance and signs in English about kite strings tied to friendship and peace. It was wonderful to see generations together outside (in spite of cold weather) enjoying the kites flying in the wind. I think we must have missed a major part of the kite festival but we learned a lot about Agriculture and Education in Shandong Province.
We were at the train station by 1 pm for our Express train to Bejing!
Fan Yun - a talented paper and leaf cutter artist spent last June in Columbia at the invitation of Columbia Friends of China. This time she was a gracious hostess showing us her home town Weifang in Shandong Providence. We took a high speed train (average 300 km/ hr) from Suzhou and arrived Weifang 5 hours later in a snow shower. Fan Yun and her friends met us and took us to a big banquet. The journey back was mercifully uneventful, and I'm really starting to like the availability of trains here in China, even on crazy travel weekends. On my return to Jinan I elected to just take the bus to the central train station which is about 2 miles from my school and walk back; the perfect decompression time before starting work again on Monday, mischief managed. I was spent.
