Well, I typed this WHOLE entry and then went to save and...POOF! Everything's gone!!! That's gotta be the most annoying thing ever!!!!!!!!!!#!@#!$%#^$%&^$%$ To sum it all up, we went rafting today on the Telaga Waja River and it was lots of fun. It has class II and III rapids (for those of you that know what it means). We went over some crazy drops; 3m and 4m (~9ft and 12ft, respectively for the metrically-challenged). They were really, really fun and the whole trip today was great. Again...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia chaos242Once again, I'm behind in updating the blog- but when you're enjoying a city it's hard to always take time out to sit in an internet cafe for a few hours to upload all the photos, but as we are heading off to Thailand tomorrow and we've been here for 3 weeks, an update is overdue! When we first arrived in Bali, the first thing that I noticed that the airport, had wooden carvings throughout the structure and had incense burning- definitely not the sterile concrete environment I'm used to an ai...

... after a while I was bored of myself and saw no one to talk to so decided to head back. I hadn't kept track of how much I'd been spending, however, and on being presented with the bill realised that in my wallet I had Rp.6,000 less than I needed (around £0.38), with no other means of paying. I made a show of counting out my money then handed it to the waitress with a smile and a thank you before promptly ****ing off at great speed and losing myself in the crowd. Hoho my son!
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia alastair6MONEY CHANGER WARNING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hi Folks, Almost just had a pretty bad experience. I went to a small money changer on the street. They were offering a very high exchange rate. I went in with $200 US and the exchange was 10,0195 rps, making the total for the exchange 2,039,000. The guy started to count it out in 20,000rp denominations and since that would have meant carrying around over 100 bills I asked if he could do 50,000rp bills. He said no problem. He counts ...

... place, full of gorgeous Swedish girls. Never a bad thing. & it has a bar in the pool, all for 5 quid a night per person. Today we found the fabled "steps". Basically there are some steps outside an off license which plays music. All the travelers, surfers or tourists who want to meet people go here & hang out till about midnight, then they all go out & party. Very cool. Here we met Donnie, a Javanese tattooist who dresses like an English skinhead ...
Kuta, Indonesia newmansinasia... www.manisartshop.com. I didn't have time to make any considered purchases. However, Dewa Rai took me to the airport the next day, and we stopped at the place on the way. I purchased a ~14" Garuda woodcarving, and once again had problems with the Mastercard. Fortunately they accepted Amex though they didn't advertise it. But...the second massage at the end of the day did help to restore my equilibrium :).
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia shorinsean... Piece of cake, right? We all discussed how we had envisioned a ride to the top of the mountain followed by an easy hike, some Disneyland-esque type climb to see the sun rise. We all neglected the fact that we would be CLIMBING a MOUNTAIN in the DARK at 3 AM! So we start this lovely adventure by climbing into Ben's vehicle at 2 AM and travel north in the pitch black. We make it to the BOTTOM of the mountain and are the first people in the ...
Mt. Batur, Indonesia travel_buddy... t even rainy and this massive canal was within one foot of overflowing. There were big black "gloops" floating about in the water. I didn't think it possible, but, yes, they were what I thought they were. There was much poverty once past the gleaming skyscrapers along Jalan Thamrin and Sudirman. The traffic was also unbearable. It was constant grid lock and road rage most of the time. A gzillion ojeks ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia kafir_mel... beach to watch the moon and listen to the waves. Wow, we love this place!!! We had to checkout the next day and move next door which is an even nicer hotel than the one we were at. We packed our bags and had them transferred to the next beach cause by the time we had to checkout the following day from our new hotel we would be white water river rafting. We took advantage of this hotel and hung out around the circular pool with little offshoots, some of which had small ...
