I decided a night in Puerto del Rosario might be good for a change of scene and I had an early flight in the morning. I probably should have listened more to what I'd been told, it's more industrial and not so enjoyable. Still it was a transit stop that helped me get to the airport in plenty of time, the bus being much more efficient than I'd expected.
May 12-23: I am on my own on a desert island. Fuerteventura (means "strong winds"), the second-largest island in the Canaries archipelago, lies just 100 kilometres northwest of Africa. There used to be some groundwater and precipitation, but now there's just year-round sunshine and hardly any rain. Water comes from desalination, powered by wind turbines.
This volcanic island was granted Biosphere Reserve status by UNESCO in 2009. ...
... was a variety show featuring each of the guest acts, so we saw the Scottish comedian Ron Dale, singer Jane Beaumont and another singer called Fély Pandez, but no Martin Daniels as they informed us that he’d had to fly home in a hurry due to a bereavement. :-(
We then went along to have our final attempt at the quiz which we didn’t win! Then it was time for the last performance of the cruise in the Coral Club. ...
... and more musicians entertaining the crowds.We have visited some very diverse ports on this cruise, met some lovely people, enjoyed good food and apart from David bashing his knees and myself now having a cough and cold it had been a great start to the New Year.Now we can look forward to joining MS Braemar on another voyage in a few weeks time to West Africa & Cape Verde ...
We are warmly welcomed at the hotel for our 5 night all inclusive stay. Our room is very spacious with an excellent balcony and sea views. The hotel is set in beautiful gardens.
We spend the next few days relaxing locally and travelling around the southern tip of Fuerteventura.
