I am an Aunty as of now!

Lots more has happened the last month, but this entry is specially dedicated to: ALEX ... the new-born son of my Brother and his wife A. Their first (if more to come). Will not bore you with the details, but the hospital and gynaecologists have f*cked up big time with this pregnancy. Basically she suffered without any reason, with insufficient painkillers, for 33 hours straight!!! Had a ...

im dreaming of a white christmas

... where wearing santa hats & everyone was so happy , there were jazz bands walking around playing christmas carols & carols where coming out of the speakers all around town. Dordrecht is one of the oldest citys iln The Netherlands , and it has a charm of its own on any day , but when there are real reindeers out the front of the big church and santa claus is walking around - it felt like we were in a theme park ! After another glass of ...

A strange evening in the Netherlands

... half hour trying to find in the immense site. Eventually tracking it down in a field full of huge dutch caravans, we drove off the gravel track and felt the car immediately sink into deep mud. Realising the field was awash with about an inch of standing water on top, we decided camping was not an option here. Some spectacular wheel-spinning, mud-spraying driving attracted a crowd of curious dutch onlookers but ...

Up, up, up! and going on vacation (to Utrecht)

Short entry today, kids, seeing as I'm en route to Amsterdam once more today. Friday... although Liz was afraid we might have peaked with the biking/cheese-making fun, all adventures are fun, and yesterday no less so. Yesterday was Utrecht day, and all of its assorted fun. We got a fairly early start on the day, the six of us (we were sans Ep) taking the bus to Utrecht, somewhere around 30 to 45 minutes away. A short fork in our paths ...

Utrect, Netherlands

Today I went down to visit one of yara's friends in Utrect, and to have dinner at his home town. This was really kewl. People were really nice, and it was a beutiful town. The Netherlands has about 5 main city's. It is more inland so there are not many canles but there are still a **** load of bikes, and people. We went to a pub which had over 300 beers to choise from and it was great. They have great stout's from belgum there. Yara and Frank ...

Exploring Rotterdam

... Grrr. We will try a cable later in my visit. Annoying being out of touch for email, etc. The place where they live is a 4 story stone apartment building with about one room wide and two deep. Entranceway has two lovely baked tile depictions of summer and winter with art deco design up to about the 20 foot level. In what we would call the basement is the kitchen, storage, sitting room and dining room. First floor the guest room, toilet and Nora's sitting room and Grada's ...

Leiden

... we should see the Pilgrim Archives. Good choice. As you may know, the Pilgrims sailed to Leiden prior to embarking for the new world. There is quite a bit of history here regarding the Pilgrims. We discovered there was also a Pilgrim Museum here. So naturally we went. Surprise of all surprises, we met and talked with a Dr. Jeremy Bangs who has done extensive study and writing about the Pilgrims and also had extensive knowledge about Hingham, Scituate and surrounding ...

Daytrips within the Netherlands

... Dutch bikes home. That's quite an image, huh? The last bit that adds meaning to this game, the Dutch were suppose to win the Euro Cup back in the '70s and were upset by those dreaded Germans. So this rivalry is very heated. People here actually display pain when you mention that '70s match with the Germans. Anyways, the Dutch would love to beat the Germans once and for all so this should be another fun thing to witness. APELHUEL Julie and I decided to spend the bank ...
