Historical Traveler Reviews Barefoot Bay Resort and Marina Clearwater
We just returned from two weeks in Florida. We stayed at the Barefoot Bay for two nights March 30-31 2005. It was cute as can be! Great location to the beach (which is beautiful) and nicely decorated rooms. We had everything we needed and met some great people. The owners are working hard to keep the place looking great and will for sure, get lots of repeat guests. Thanks for everything! We had a very pleasant stay even if it wasn't long enough! The Swansons from Alaska.
Just OK - Will try a different hotel next visit.
Chose Barefoot Bay for price, location, and reviews. Price: it was just an average value. Location: it was close to the beach but not right on it. Reviews: we were disappointed. Our biggest complaint was thin walls and windows. We had a young person next to us that liked to have friends over late at night and smoke and drink right outside our room. It seemed like they were right inside our room. At first we thought the room was clean but after we found a soiled mark on the topside of the bedspread (use your imagination) and a wine bottle cork on the floor near the bed that was not from us, I began to question the thoroughness of housekeeping. The drain in the shower was also clogged (which they did fix immediately after it was brought to their attention). On our next visit, we will stay somewhere else - - - on the beach for not much more $.
Just returned from a trip to Clearwater Beach and stayed 7 nights at the Barefoot Bay Resort. What a nice resort! We stayed in one of the waterfront suites and it suited our family just fine. It was plenty big enough and had all of the emenities we needed to keep the kids and us adults happy. The pool was great and the view from the room was beautiful. Just about every morning we would watch the dolphins in the bay and the birds diving down to catch fish. This resort is pretty laid back and great for families. Close to beach and Crabby Bills. The kids enjoyed eating gator nuggets at Crabby's. We found that restaurant to be inexpensive and had a great atmosphere. I wouldn't go there if you were looking for fine dining or out of this world food but the happy hour was great and everyone there was extremely nice. The resort location was close to the beach (about a 5min walk) and close to Pier 60 which is a nice place to visit at sunset. This has been our 5th trip to Clearwater beach and we have usually stayed at the Ramada Inn Gulfview next to Shepards. The view is nice there but this resort is much better, especially for families and rooms are much nicer. The people working at the resort were extremely friendly and tended to our every need. I especially like the free laundry room. What a nice extra. My only reccomendation for the resort would be to pipe in some music out by the pool area. Some nice island music would be nice to listen to. It would add to the ambience. Maybe a Jacuzzi on the upper deck would be nice as well! Anyway, it was perfect the way it was. I will definately be coming back and will be referring this resort to friends who travel to Clearwater as well. Thanks for making our stay the BEST in Clearwater.
One of the best
My wife and I spent 6 nights here for my birthday last April. We discovered their web site and booked immediatley, due to the price and the pictures of the property. We were not disappointed. The room was great, the staff couldn't have been more helpful and we really enjoyed it overall. Next time we come to Clearwater beach, we will absolutley stay there again. For a small little hotel, it couldn't have been better.
What a great little motel!
After we had to leave another little motel in Clearwater because it was so awful, we were leary about choosing another inexpensive motel. We got this room for $69 at the end of May and were thrilled with how nice it was. We had the queen deluxe room. The queen bed was comfortable and the sofa bed was great for our six year-old daughter. The room was very clean and beautifully decorated. The motel was probably built in the sixties, but the rooms have been completely refurbished. There's beadboard paneling in part of the room and the furnishings are all new. The smallish bathroom has a long shelf for lots of storage. The towels, sheets, and blankets were all in excellent condition. When we asked for extra towels, they arrived in minutes. There's a microwave, mini fridge, and sink in the deluxe room and even bowls and cups. The pool is clean and surrounded by a deck and attractive plantings. The beach and pier are a quick walk away on good sidewalks. There are sunset activities at the pier each night, so it's nice to be able to walk there and not pay for parking. We would love to stay here again!!
Filthy carpets, dirty bathroom....WON'T stay again!!!
We stayed here for a week last year. It was my first trip back to Clearwater in over ten years and I was so looking forward to it. I came across this place on a Clearwater tourism site and booked it because the pictures made the rooms look so beautiful and the price was right. When we arrived our room was not ready. We had to wait 45 minutes to get in our room. At first glance the room looked very attractive, and the view of the bay was gorgeous, but the bathtub was dirty, the bathroom floor obviously had not been washed, and the room smelled really bad. It was obvious they had sprayed something to cover up the obnoxious odor. Worst of all, we couldn't walk around the room for ten seconds without getting our socks filthy. I made my three-year-old wear shoes whenever she wasn't sleeping. It was obvious the carpets hadn't been cleaned in years. The towels had holes in them and the sheets were really threadbare. The drain in the bathtub was extremely slow, and the tub would fill up with water whenever we showered. When we had booked the trip, we had been told there was a hair dryer and iron in the room. As it turned out, there were only a few to be used for all the guests. The person at the desk said he would bring them up when they became available. That never happened, so we went to a local store and bought our own. Some of the family members who worked here were just indifferent, especially one who worked in housekeeping and had prepared our room when we arrived.. The only housekeeper who was pleasant and did a nice job with the room was NOT a family member. For the price we didn't expect a five-star hotel, but at least the carpets could be clean. I will say the pool was nice and clean, and it looked attractive at night surrounded by little lights. The best thing about this place is the close proximity to the beach. The surrounding neighborhood is downright seedy, though, filled with run-down motels. In fact Clearwater Beach is becoming a real dump. Next time I think we'll spend the extra money and stay on Sand key.
Perfect Location,Very Nice Little Lodge
This is my 2nd stay at the Barefoot Bay, and it is without a doubt a GREAT Place! When we arrived, we were greeted by name and were taken once again by simple beauty and feeling of relaxation of the resort.
This place is not stuffy nor just another business transaction at a large chain hotel. It is quaint, charming and has the atmosphere of a bed and breakfast. The rooms are nicely decorated and you have everything you need for a pleasant, uncomplicated stay. We stayed in a deluxe Queen room which has a queen bed, (very comfy) pull out sofa, big TV, breakfast table, small kitchen--micro, refrig, sick, cabinettes, coffee maker, sink--plus a good size closet, small but adequate bathroom that has a Wonderful, strong shower. I loved the fact that I could practically get a massage with that shower head and it had plenty of hot and cold water. There are several deck areas in which to visit with other guests, sunbathe, or lay out. You can even bar-b-que your own food if you like and several people did while we were there.
One big thing to note, is that parking is at a premium anywhere on Clearwater beach so it is SO VERY CONVIENT to stay at the Barefoot and leave your car parked there for the duration and just walk across the road to Pier 60, the beach, restaurants, etc. Who wants to drive in traffic when you are trying to relax? This place for us is just wonderful, an oasis. We highly recommend it.
Found this Hotel on the net and arranged to meet friends from Wisconsin here in June 2003. They usually make a point of only staying in 5* resorts, but allowed us to choose the venue as a concession to it being a BIG vacation for us. We were all very impressed by the cleanliness and friendly staff here, who couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. Our friends stayed in the upstairs Marina View Suite, which was very spacious. We opted for a poolside efficiency, which we were thrilled with. Being a small Hotel it wasn't very busy and we sat out by the pool 'till midnight every night, swimming, drinking and soaking up the atmosphere. Just a few minutes from the beach, a few little stores and restaurants close by - it had everything we wanted at a great price. Our friends were impressed at what you could get off the net if you really looked. We will come back to Florida again - and if we visit Clearwater Beach again, we will not stay anywhere else. Thank you to all who made our vacation such fun.
Great service, great rates
This place had wonderful customer service. Our reservations were erroneously cancelled so management put us up in the Hilton for the first evening of our stay. We thought the Hilton would be nicer but when we checked in the following day we were surprised to see that Barefoot Bay was 10X better than our deluxe room at the Hilton. I highly recommend the waterfront room, which is where we stayed. Great view and a 5 minute walk to the beach.
Great for the Family
I was extreamly suprised at how nice this little hotel is. We visited last summer and wanted to go cheap!! It was very inexpensive so I was thinking it may be a dive. However upon arrival we noticed right off the bat at how nice it was. The rooms were very clean and tidy, The pool area was also very nice. The staff (family owned) were soo pleasent. All around this was a great place to stay. The only downside was no tub for the kids. If you are looking for a cheap, clean, very nice place to stay; I highly reccomend Barefoot Bay Resort.

Leaving the inside passage we had two days at sea. We toured the Glacier Bay and College Fjords. The thundering sound of a glacier calving is really something. We were able to view the glaciers right from our cabin balcony. Much of the ride was overcast and cold but we did see some beautiful glaciers. And honestly, photos do not do justice for the beauty and vastness of Alaska. We also had a National Park Service ranger come on board to talk about what we ...

First of all, Mexico does not have Sleep Number Beds. And to have one shipped down from the U.S. would cost a fortune in import, tariffs and taxes. The cheapest sleep number bed in the U.S. is listed at around $1,000 U.S., and import fees could run as high as another $500.
It's one week and counting until my adventure to South Africa begins. This time I am using this official blog site here at travelpod.com to share the details and photos of my trip. Since this is the first time I have blogged instead of sending emails, I hope it goes well and that I can keep your interest with my stories and photos.
So, how did I decide to visit South Africa, you ask? ...
