... Then up the funicular to the mountain overlooking Como, not happy with view at that height we decide to walk up to the lighthouse. Snow covered following last weeks cold blast we make our way up - a long way - finally arriving at 'the lighthouse'. The view was spectacular, well the view as best it can be here with quite dense haze/smog. We could see the water but sadly the Swiss Alps, whilst could be seen, were blurry. (Switzerland is ...

We arrived in this beautiful city at dusk so we weren't able to get the most out of it. Stayed there only for one hour and we spent that time in Parco Civico capturing the flickering lights of the city surrounded by mountains. The view from the shores of Lake Lugano was fascinating. It's truly a must-visit city and I'd love to go back and see it in broad daylight. ...

Sadly, some of it was closed due to the cold (it had snowed a couple days before). So we decided to walk to the Castello di San Vigilio on the top of the mountain. We saw that this road would take us there and it looked short and straight. However, the ...

      ... tomorrow.
The next day, we go back in to town, The WAG stands outside the shop with the books hanging up in the rack and finds a nice mint copy, not only in English, but in a clear plastic bag too. As it was also Sellotaped to the rack, and needed unsticking to free it, this was obviously the display one, and not usually for sale. Now, it just so happened that our arrival at the shop, coincided with a busy period, and when we about to go in and just tell ...

      Family History

... war was so distant and so long ago that it could no longer affect him. Even as I grew older, I never appreciated how strongly and vividly the memories must have remained. I am sad that I lacked the maturity or insight to recognise this earlier, but then again, Dad was clearly reluctant to re-open such dark memories. I have never realised how a youngster at war in his twenties must have deeply defined the man for the rest of his life; and this is an awareness which I have only ...
