... at Julie and Neil’s place in Eze. We had booked a couple of days away in Italy so I had Thursday and Friday off again. We left early Thursday morning for Bellagio on the shores of Lake Como. It was about 5 hours’ drive with motorway most of the way. The last part consisted of narrow, windy roads. When we arrived in Bellagio we were very pleased that the car they had hired had a GPS because it took us through the narrow main street and down to our ...

... the question that most Tourists ask "Is that George's Villa", but alas it is a long way up the lake towards Como.

We stop at the Villa del Balbianello for a tour of the estate that is now owned and maintained by the Fondo (Foundation) Ambiente Italiano and was previously owned by Guido Monzino a weathy Milanese Businessman who was a dedicated explorer and collector. He was too busy climbing Mount Everest, trecking to the North Pole or exploring South America so ...

    Beers had : Moretti

Como Connection : Whilst stationed at Como at the end of the war, I am quite sure that the soldiers let their hair down in fraternisation with all those beautiful young Italian ladies. My Dad's brother even married one! I wondered what my father got up to, as a single 25 year old. We did keep a watchful lookout for possible relatives...

... like a restaurant review but this was the most fun we had out eating in Italy. Food was good, service was good. We decided to ask for the cheese for one; stressing the one; the waiters English was OK but not as good as many; as they say, a lot better than our Italian. Then the waiter came with more wine and proceeded to give us an extra glass while we "waited for the cheese". Cheese came out and it was a very big serve. We questioned the waiter who ...
