... Another interesting feature of the highways in continental Europe is the weather driven speed limits. Instead of keeping the speed limits to what is safe in all weather, they have different speed limits for when it's icy or raining, which seems it would keep people closer to the speed limits in general. The Spanish highways have huge bushes full of pink, white and red flowers dividing the two directions of traffic, which is so nice to look at.<br>..."This is the ...
El Rocío, Andalusia, Spain claesch... have had the company of my friend Gary to help me through Essex and more particularly Kent and Sussex (that day through Kent and Sussex was surprisingly the toughest of the whole trip); and Gary's wife Jeanette, who not only drove to Newhaven to collect Gary, but kept me going along the way with frequent text messages urging me ever onward. Then there was support from friends Martin, Ian and Rachel: to them and all those who have read my blog or followed ...
Vila Real de Santo Antonio, Portugal jamie_pete... I crossed the Rio Tinto I knew that I had completed the majority of the ride. (Red River: named because it is actually red from the copper deposits up in the sierra. Ever heard of the UK company Rio Tinto Zinc? Well this is where it got the first two thirds of its name. There is even an area of English style Victorian houses in Huelva that housed the British miners!) I was delighted to ride up to the hotel, especially ...
Huelva, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands jamie_pete... led into a lovely park, not unlike the Tuileries, with specimen trees and shrubs and a monument to the dead at Trafalgar, erected on the 200th anniversary in a gesture of peace between the three nations. Then on to the Castillo de Santa Catalina, a fine star- shaped castle at the end of town, and the long walkway out to sea to the Castillo de San Sebastian. Between the two is a lovely beach, backed mainly by university ...

Huelva, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands -scooter... I have no idea. I feel llike its something I should know, but alas, its lost in translation. The next day we went to this amazing spa in the basement of a swanky hotel. I was expectng a pool, maybe a sauna. I was quite wrong. The whole area was built to look like a cave. There were hottubs, cold tubs, saunas, massage pool thingsy. My legs felt like they had died in the hour and a half I was there. That's how relaxed I was. It was a complete ...
Puente Umbril, Spain mwalsh86... So I walked to the center of town where a couple spotted me and thought that I needed help and asked me and now I'm in thier appartment and they have left to go out drinking. Anyway, I am stuck in Huelva with possibly no place to stay until I can get a hold of my dad and have him wire me some more money. I was wondering if you could call him for me?
Huelva, Spain sandramorrow... great John Giorno after we appeared with him in Pitigliano, Italy last fall. The organizers are glad to see us, check us into the 4-star NH Viapol Hotel and walk us down into the Centro of town to treat us to a big meal of tapas and wine. They seem a little tentative toward us, as if they don't really know what we're going to do but it should be interesting. The producers of the festival are from Madrid and Majorca, but the house production chief is a ...
Seville, Spain johnsinclair... icing textured yoghurt, then the juicy, jelly-like explosion of sour grapefruit, then the chewy, bitter sweet pith. Some challenged your notions of ingredients: "avocado cannelloni with crab and pumpkin seed oil", finely shredded crabmeat encased in a tube of paper thin avocado slices and dressed with whipped pumpkin seed oil mousse; or "extra virgin oil soup with scallops and charcoal oil", exactly what it says, satiny, smoky and sweet and my second favourie ...
