For one time in my travel, I got time to rest and to enjoy... so, one day in Mochima, a small place near of Cumana, just like the "Calanques" near Marseille on the french riviera... but with the carabean style... Watch the photos ;)
Cumana, Northeast Venezuela, Venezuela riviere.xavierWell, after Mochima, I stay I week here, meeting people and spending some time in the hotel. Cumana is a very nice place, near the Caribean Sea. A good place for hollydays, but there is not a lot of tourism in Venezuela because of the country's situation. Well, I never feel insecure in Venezuela, and most of the problem appear in the "barios" around Caracas, or in the border with Columbia. Venezuelan come here for "la semana santa". It's really a good place. Of course, I didn't saw "Los Roque...

... for 80s UK cheese. Seeing that there was a gringo in the car, every police check stopped our car and checked my stamp. I must have showed it at least 20 times. I met Katrine, a girl I'd met in Quito who will be traveling with me in Trinidad and Tobago, in Caracas then stayed a night with our friendly couchsurfer in one of the many ghettos. He said it wasn't all that dangerous but we shouldn't go out after about 7 in the evening. It looked ...
Cumana, Northeast Venezuela, Venezuela phil.aldridge... pile of sand in front of the gate we would have to use. We thought it worth a try to get in, but having driven around to the gate it proved too tight for us to get in and so we had to carry on. We were on the coastal road and so had some nice scenery with lots of small beaches but still nowhere to park. In the end we came to another police checkpoint with a parking area alongside and so asked them and they said yes ...
Playa Concord, Venezuela mikeandmary... GB pound!!!). NOTE ON FOOD For those reading this and think it is strange that we describe food a lot it is because when one travels from place to place.. The Maslow Heirachy of Needs comes into full force and one becomes preoccupied with where you will sleep, how to get from point A to B and then Food, which being in a foreign place and language being a problem becomes a major challenge in itself. You will all be pleased to hear that Fat Lardy boy ...
Santa Fe, Venezuela kingsandemsAfter more than a week in the jungle, it was great to arrive at the caribean beaches. We stayed in Santa Fe, a small and charming fishing village where we spent four days fishing, snorkling and resting. The posada was owned by a very nice couple who introduced us to a 'lanchero' (boat driver), Condorito. From 10am to 6pm we were fishing a lot (one day 60 fishes), eating ...
Cumana, Northeast Venezuela, Venezuela mariaclement... t too much of a night life there with only a coule of local bars, neither of which we went to. The locals there weren´t the friendliest as most Venezuelan´s don´t take well to foreighners. They really don´t need our money. But we did manage to take a nice little boat ride from Tomas to Mochima national park to spend the day on a small island were we snokled and saw many different species of fish and other marine ...
Santa Fe, Venezuela mattyc123... off in the ocean!! Which they were only too happy to follow me!!! Finally they tired of staring at us and slowly left us be. The next day was very much of the same of lying on the beach! And very much the same of harassing men, but this time, at least they were in their twenty's! (sorry Phil, we are not looking for them, they are looking for us!) Then on Sunday we headed out to the national park in this area ...
Santa Fe, Venezuela vmcelani... the caves in the morning on the back of truck which was so unsafe it was hilarious; armed with beach rum and good sense of balance we proceeded. Andrew and I hung off the back of the open truck, swigged beach rum and discussed Venezuelan politics which was a very interesting subject especially at the moment with Chavez making some very powerful allies in South America by cancelling all their oil debt, plus the rum greased the wheels! We got dropped off and after a short walk we ...
Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela elliotandcarla... therefore that he could probably survive the road. In fact, his driving was sane by the standards of this area, and we arrived safely at the beach with most of the day before us. We spent it lounging and swimming at a beach with pretty fawn sand, coconut trees and refreshing water. At about 5pm I put the tent up, only to have a friendly local tell me to take it to the other end of the beach where I would be safer. I was surprised that a five minute walk would make such a ...
Cumana, Venezuela mlc... I give them can perhaps show them something new and different. Especially the girls who ask me. Mainly I just talk about the freedom I have...to do what I want, and go where I want to.....and also the fact that I love meeting new people and learning about this incredible culture - something which I am forced to do as I don´t have a permanent travel buddy anyway....and that I value traveling itself above the security of having someone to travel with. From ...
