Our next stop was Florence. We had a tour by a local guide who took us to many monuments, churches, statues and squares. We also went straight into view the statue of David. The que for people trying to get tickets was long. In our free time we shopped at the Gold Corner and the leather shop Perucci. Don got a replacement wallet and I bought a lovely bracelet. The mulberry tree, while it had its trunk the other side of the fence, draped its branches over the roadside. Yum.
Paul and Dave swam at the local beach while Karen and I lazed around the pool. The immaculate one....the other still being a haven for frogs. Dinner on the verandah as the sun set.
Arrived at Cutro, a small mountainside village scattered along the face of the mountain. No big castellos or defensive walls, just a village on the side and top of the mountain. While admiring the view from one of the towns piazzas, were approached by a cheerful gentleman who then proceeded to give us the third degree while sharing information about his village. Lots of laughs and movement of hands, as his english matched ...
... the town thoroughly, looking for the advertised tourist information centre. I might add that theres 4 of us looking. Followed every lead from the sign closest to town, asked several people and followed their direction and nothing. Not even a hint.
Ah, not June yet!
Along the beach were several resorts that had been abandoned, and all the shops in the town had yet to open. We picnic'd on the harbour breakwater ...
