Travelling in China is easy, air travel is much better and easier than in the UK (although beware the flight time seems to be takeoff time, not gate closing so don't cut things too fine). We did it in flipflops though I recommend to take trainers if you want to avoid complaints of your wife about sore foot soles from the *********e for the whole day.
To take the hike turn left before the orchid valley, there are good visible signs. Dont forget the water, for a change there is not a single shop until the peak!
