Chaing Mai, Thailand Banthai Village 76F Picked up at airport by KOH, arrived hotel at 10 AM by TAI. Wonderful boutique hotel that is at the end of a SOI, little street off of a main street, more like an alley. Very friendly and courteous women and boys. Showered - great cool water - and relaxed. Walked a short ways along Tha Phae Road to Old Town looking at floats for tomorrows Flower Festival. Ate at a backpacker restaurant - pork fried rice and Sangha beer. Chiang Mai, Thailand coolican06 Feb 09 Chiang Mai, Thailand Banthai Village Breakfast with Deb Olson at Banthai. Met other cooking tour participants. Invited me to join then to visit a elephant refuge. After a short van ride with our young volunteer guide, Melissa, we arrived to be immediately loaded upon elephants for a 10 minute ride down to the river. After the ride the elephants and mahouts gave an hour long demonstration of logging skills. The elephants have all been trained to do timber logging and the refuge is a ...
Chiang Mai, Thailand coolicanHello people, This is just a quickie to say thay we have left Krabi and are now on the very touristy island of Koh Phi Phi. For those of you who have seen the film 'The Beach' then this is the island where most of it was filmed - (I have to confirm that!). Anyway, we are staying at the Banthai Guest House. It is nice and clean and the staff are very friendly. The only problem is it is the high season over here and therefore the prices have been raised. We are paying 500 Baht per double room!!...

terminal, where 4 other backpackers lay. "May I join you?" "Of course, pick a
spot." I sat and conversed with a Brit who had been in the British army and
was in Thailand training in Muay Thai. He had been down on his luck, and was
looking to fly home earlier than he intended to. He had learn great lessons
from his circumstances and had gained insight to the importance of knowing that

... outwardly flamboyant gays from Vietnam who were travelling as a group with one Westerner among them - I think he was a Brit - needless to say it was an unusual combination. After being told I looked like a girl from one of them and after another started hitting on Alex I knew this would be an eventful journey. The American kept spurning them on so it turned out to be quite the entertaining ride involving myself being indignant for most of it lol. During the early ...

The park in Surin has a long way to go, however, and Jeff has a lot of things to organize. We agreed to meet him at the park office in Chiang Mai tomorrow to continue to talk about how we can help. After lunch, we bathed the elephants for the last time and spent a while saying goodbye to Mae Bua Kum, a loner elephant who has ...
Chiang Mai, Thailand kristinm1313We are back in Chiang Mai for a few days before leaving for a week at the elephant nature park. We decided to take a cooking class, which was a lot of fun. Here are some pictures from the day, I am just glad to still have my eyebrows.
Chiang Mai, Thailand kbreeze... Thailand in general, which is what you want from a tour guide. Our first stop was the local market, where we stocked up on water and snacks for the walk...as we were visiting some local villages i also bought some sweets for the village kids. We were driven a little way out of Chiang Mai to the beginning of the tour, the elephant trek. This was an hour of pure enjoyment for me, I'm not sure Barbara enjoyed it quite as much!! Our ride for the day was a 12 year old male ...
Chiang Mai, Thailand chcolateman... city. I must say that I didn't discover it, and I still don't know. But the fact is this is the place where I've spent most of time during my travel, and afterwards if I would have to choose one place that I really liked, it will be Chang Mai, without a doubt. Some magic going on there ??
We found a really lovely place there (Julie's guesthouse). It started to be well known, but its still has lot of charm and a definitive backpacker taste. The most that I found during ...
