... activity. All along the fringes of the beach there were wooden buildings going up, some in the early stages of construction and some having the palm-leaved roof secured in place. I had somehow expected the Thais to find a way of continuing to make a livelihood on this stretch of beach. It will be interesting to see if they are allowed to continue to trade through the tourist season.

... we swam, ate, played on floating logs (mostly Julien) and headed out to our jungle and cave walk. As per usual, the guides insisted: “no flipflops” but they all go without shoes. Our guide particularly liked Julien.... He joked with him a lot even made him a leaf hat that looked like Robin Hood’s hat which Julien wore the entire time. Pointed out neat features of the jungle.

The cave was 800m long. During the raining season it is not recommended ...

... for a whole 24 hours, but I will let him off. Jungle Gen insisted on spending the first night trekking in the jungle looking for critters. We found lots, plus an awesome flying squirrel that scurried up a tree in front of us. We tried to get it to fly, but it wasn't interested and went back to gymnastics training. ... rather expensive and so we decided to share a pizza. The best part was the free salad bar. So we said our goodbyes. She and I were very different and we were never going to be lifelong friends but I was going to miss her company.

Now I was on my own again. Week two with Volunteer Teacher Thailand would start tomorrow and, with John and Veena both gone, I had some misgivings about what the week might hold in store for me.
