Day 3 in the car took us across Canada's vast prairies for the first time…and quite possibly the last time as well. We had a great night in Brandon, Manitoba and were on the road nice and early with the sun shining down. The plan was to tackle the balance of Manitoba and all of Saskatchewan in a single day with our sights set on Calgary for the end of the third leg of our trip. Well, driving across Manitoba and Saskatchewan can only be described as being trapped in an episode of the Fli...
Banff, Alberta, Canada grahamcockingApologies for letting the blog slip slightly in the past 2 weeks or so but it has just been so unbelievably busy out here. We've started the CSIA Level 2 course now with a bang. Eric was our new instructor for the first week which was cool with me as he is just so funny - it's constant jokes all day. Apparently they have been given strict instructions to get us all out of our comfort zones for the next 2 weeks by scaring us silly. The first week we spent practically all day, every day skiing...

... hand in the water. The snails are the things that look like seeds; they are about the size of seeds too.
Proper use of National Park land at one time even encompassed a coal mine which operated here from 1902 to 1922 - yep, in the middle of a National Park they had a coal mine complete with a town of 900 odd people and logging and hunting were also both allowed in the Park. For several decades Parks employees also shot wolves and cougars ...

Lake Louise, British Columbia, Canada wayneb... path as they slid down the mountain side. The trees are just beginning to change colour and add bright yellow and orange splashes to the scene. Coming to Lake Louise completes the loop for us that most people do in the train (Rocky Mountaineer) when they come to Canada as last year we went through Jasper to the north in the train but continued across Canada to Toronto. Unfortunately we didn't see any wildlife and I was particularly ...
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada barboHi all, Yes another entry so soon, but we thought that you would like to see what we are up to in the short time before we leave Banff. Photos attached of my temporary purse string looseningJ Other than that, I haven't done anything of great importance to make me tired and the dinners were not late nights. I had training on Friday for my job at Starbucks, but it ended up consisting of a few hours spent on a computer doing an interactive training session on policies, procedures etc with an audio voiceover of what I was reading. I honestly nearly ...
Banff, Alberta, Canada vhenschke... us and the biologist. I do not mention names. So we got to the stables and from there with a wan we got to the horses up on the mountain half an hour drive from town. We had two guides with us whom job was to look after us but most importantly the horses. All of us was assigned to a horse and I was the lucky one to sit on my horse first from the group. I was sitting on Flash! When I got introduced the guide told me the horses name is Vern. Vern and Flash were too lookalike so he mixed ...
