I recently had a wonderful holiday at the wonderful island of Mauritius. The scenery was breathtaking. The island's volcanic origins are obvious when you drive around the island. The jagged mountains form part of an ancient caldera which ...
... he was going to play all night just for us! How naff! The first course was smoked marlin salad, which Darren forced down with his rum and coke. The guitar guy played happily along, oblivious to Darren's dislike of the marlin salad. After a long delay the second course arrived and was announced as "pumpkin cappuccino", causing Darren even further discomfort. To his intense relief no coffee was contained in the soup, only pumpkin. It was consumed ...
Pereybere, Mauritius penny71... started to warm to us now, he even made sure after the operatio that we had some tea. Thats another weird thing about here - evrywhere you go there is a little counter where they employ a person/people to stay and cook/prepare drinks for the doctors. So you can stroll up there and ask for a cup of tea and they say no problem, milk and sugar? Kind of old fashioned but i like it none the less proving the whole arrogant ******* thing. Anyway after ...
Pamplemousses, Mauritius b.herring... house that you could look inside was home to loads of the usual kinds of fish you find in tropical waters. It was great just looking in all the different holes, shinning your torch to see what you could find. We really enjoyed both the dives we did with Dream Divers. We did not have much time left for more dives as we needed to dry our dive equipment ready to leave Mauritius on Friday 18th to go to Madagascar. On Thursday we took the local bus (only 10mins) further ...
Port Louis, Mauritius m-and-c... mall and not much of a craft market as compared to the ones I saw in South Africa and Madagascar. Moving North, I stop at the SSR (Sir something something) Pamplemousses Botanical gardens at the suggestion of my sister, Julia. They are really cool and would be perfect for a nice picnic, but after finding out that 98% of the islands flora was imported, it becomes a zoo of plants that just don't provide all that much ...
Grand Baie, Mauritius madman96... us even longer. I just needed to get out of the heat, and as it always goes when you're in a hurry there are always delays. Once they freed us from the confines of the oven, they served us refreshments (coffee and tea, very refreshing after sitting in a hot auditorium for an hour...I'm just evil sometimes, so ungrateful) before we went back to the ship. I met up with everyone and we went out to dinner on the waterfront, at a place called Shooters ...
Port Louis, Mauritius hayesbk... to her home, located in the same street where our apartment is. While there, we talked about the Chikungunya. She had had it and was sick, vomiting and very feverish, unable to eat or do anything for four full days before things got a bit better for her. In fact, she told me the first day that she went to the doctor, the line of people waiting to see the doctor was so long that she was told at the end to come back the next day. Her deaf daughter also got the disease and ...
Grand Baie, Mauritius joelmeeker... So, what are my thoughts about Mauritius after my first 10 days here? Well, I think there has been a lot improvements in every area; quality of life, economy, life in general. I am amazed by the number of Benzes and BMWs on the streets, not to mention other upscale European brands, like Alfa Romeo. I am not talking old models, all late models and loaded! There is a lot of money around, that's for sure. Although from what my friends tell me, there is one group ...
Vacoas, Mauritius gmonvoisin... to our house. The next day Mel, Dan, and I all rented a taxi for the day to take us around part of the island. We saw soo many beautiful beaches, water fall, and the seven layer earth... it was a good time. In all Mauritius was a blast, but I was very impressed w/ it. The population there are a mix of Indian, French, and Chinese. Its an interesting place but like every other island.
