After returning from Halong Bay we didnt have much planned. We woke to rain and decided to have a lazy day and a late breakfast. We took a walk with Matty & Noosha to get some tickets for the water puppets show that night and headed back to the hotel. I spent the better part of the morning writing this blog (Halong Bay) and uploading pictures. Sheri enjoyed the air con and continued with her book. We headed out for a great Indian lunch - and was great food. Recommend Indian Cafe near Ma M...
Hanoi, Hanoi, Vietnam bradlangtonWe got to Hanoi after a quick plane journey, and here is where the car/moped horn carnage began. Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep. The tones change but the horn action never stops. As you can imagine it's pretty annoying. In Vietnam people beep their automobile horns more than they breathe. If they start the car they give the horn and old tute! If they see another car on the road they beep, if a car cuts them off they really go hell for leather. Now the roads are generally packed to the raf...
Hanoi, Vietnam cccdGreetings from Hue. Arrived here yesterday after an overnight bus from Ninh Binh. After swearing never to do one again, we kinda had to do it this time as our options were limited with regards transport. So we ended up getting an "open tour bus", whatever that means. In reality it is a bus with all the seats removed with bunk beds put in in their place. It wasn't really all that bad, though the guy lying beside me was playing footsie with me in his sleep and Anne and her "sleeping partner" we...
Hue, Vietnam dixieannie After sleep in Bangkok airport on the floor we have arrived in hanoi. Already taken with the place ad we've only been here a few hours. Crazy busy, weird thin tall houses just like amsterdam but they are are detached and very ornate, looks like they do that thing they do in Italy where as the family grows they just build another floor ontop of the existing house, that's just s a guess though.
Seen 2 skinned, dead dogs that looked like they had been smoked and gutted. They were hitching a r...
I have just written an entire blog entry on yesterday and tried to publish it, the computor crashed so I now have to do it all over again. ARGH! I even got up early so that I would be up to date, so I am not a happy bunny. But i'll begin again.... We woke up very excited to start the mopeding day, but alas some practicalities needed to be sorted out, i.e. laundy, A.T.M etc. Any time we get to do laundry is a complete blessing, as all our clothes have been worn at least once on very hot sweaty...

Hue, Vietnam karkadeOk........... So we left Hoi An for a 4 hour bus ride to Hue. I have to admit Hue was a bit of a fizzer for us after being in Hoi An. We arrived at our hotel and it was VERY basic but it was so clean so we were happy. After putting our bags down I wanted to head off to see the sights but MArcus wasnt feeling very well and needed a sleep so I set off on my own eeek! I wondered around around the city stopping off at some cafes to have a beer and watch the world go by and then jumped on a motobi...
Hue, Vietnam melglashan... to check out. The first was Quang Ngai, it’s allure lay in the fact that My Lai was so close, I wanted to check it out. The second town being Qui Nohn, a beautiful little sea side town. I also learned of a couch surfer in Hoi An that night, he owned a book shop and was from the states. I made it a point to try and find his shop the next morning but ended up meandering around the wrong little island.

I did run into a Vietnamese man with an American accent. He called me ...
Hue, Vietnam tex25... was drained into a large glass. Next, bright green bile was drained from the body (I have video if anyone is interested!). After the snakes were killed, we were each served a shot glass containing a mix of blood and vodka, complete with a beating heart at the bottom. I am skeptical as to whether or no all of our hearts were still beating, as they only killed two snakes in front of us and there were about 8 of us that actually took the shot. At first I was hesitant to imbibe the bloody ...
Huế, Thừa Thiên-Huế, Vietnam seasiabound... these new, modern 4x4's are not what I had expected. On a covered patch of gravel a group of local men play boules.

The hell continued for what seemed like hours before we reached the capitol Vientaine. My backpack is un-ceremoniously thrown from the roof of the bus to the mud below just to add insult to my somewhat ruined back. There's a bloody kebab stand there too! We organised a tuk tuk and went for a hotel. The journey had taken us 28-5 hours!
