A lazy day in Hanoi

After returning from Halong Bay we didnt have much planned. We woke to rain and decided to have a lazy day and a late breakfast. We took a walk with Matty & Noosha to get some tickets for the water puppets show that night and headed back to the hotel. I spent the better part of the morning writing this blog (Halong Bay) and uploading picture...

Snakes on a dinner table

We got to Hanoi after a quick plane journey, and here is where the car/moped horn carnage began. Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep. The tones change but the horn action never stops. As you can imagine it's pretty annoying. In Vietnam people beep their automobile horns more than they breathe. If they start the car they give the horn and old tute...

Hue wanna stay in my hotel?!

Greetings from Hue. Arrived here yesterday after an overnight bus from Ninh Binh. After swearing never to do one again, we kinda had to do it this time as our options were limited with regards transport. So we ended up getting an "open tour bus", whatever that means. In reality it is a bus with all the seats removed with bunk beds put in in thei...

do you like dags?

After sleep in Bangkok airport on the floor we have arrived in hanoi. Already taken with the place ad we've only been here a few hours. Crazy busy, weird thin tall houses just like amsterdam but they are are detached and very ornate, looks like they do that thing they do in Italy where as the family grows they just build another floor ontop of t...

I have just written an entire blog entry on yesterday and tried to publish it, the computor crashed so I now have to do it all over again. ARGH! I even got up early so that I would be up to date, so I am not a happy bunny. But i'll begin again.... We woke up very excited to start the mopeding day, but alas some practicalities needed to be sorted...

Not so happy Hue

Ok........... So we left Hoi An for a 4 hour bus ride to Hue. I have to admit Hue was a bit of a fizzer for us after being in Hoi An. We arrived at our hotel and it was VERY basic but it was so clean so we were happy. After putting our bags down I wanted to head off to see the sights but MArcus wasnt feeling very well and needed a sleep so I set...

And A Hue We Go

So the big news is that we have completed a border crossing with
almost no mishaps or ripoffs - apart from running out of money! But
more on that later.
Our final day in Hoi An began with the man from the post office
coming to our hotel to wrap up the mountain of clothes that Annika had
purchased ready to be put on a slow boa...

Den kejserlige by

Heat at last!

We arrived in Hue after a long over night 14 hour bus journey, complete with two horrific toilet stops, yet to make everything alright the sun was shining and finally the jumpers come off!

We started walking the streets to find a place to stay when we were offered a lift on the back of a motorbike (rucksacks included) to what sounded li...

Hue on two wheels

It is immediately apparent why Hue is on every travellers itinerary, it has so much to offer.

From walking around the 19th century citadel (and other historical sights), bartering in the huge Dong Ba Market, and taking day tours to the DMZ the options are many.

We stayed in Binh Duong 3 and thought it was great value. For $US15...
