    After breakfast with the United Nations at the Radisson Blu we head out of Riga. With a heavy heart we think of the passengers of the Malaysian airline who flew towards KL with high expectations of a safe trip and a happy holiday. It is a long drive on a good quality highway.     ... When I got off the bus at Riga bus station I met a girl named Hannah from England who was also heading to Central Hostel. We checked into the hostel and then walked into town. Riga is a nice old town. It's similar to Tallinn, but definitely bigger. We spent a while just checking out the small side streets in the town and then ended up having a drink in a beer garden just west of the old town.

    ... the sea is frozen solid either side of the shipping channel and the boat crashing through the ice makes a really cool sound, especially since there is nothing else around so it is the only sound you can hear. Although you do see the odd house or two on some of the islands and wonder how the occupants survive.
