... some of the countryside. Trenchin itself is only a small place but quite peaceful and the castle again rests above the city. After having a walk around the castle we headed back to the train station to catch the train. I didnt bring that many warm clothes with me basically because I dont have any from working in Africa so the ones I was wearing were getting well used all the time.
Trencin, Trencin, Slovakia richardcowley... idea to head into town by bus and I met a guy from Porto of all places who was headed to a hostel. I decided that was as good a place as any to stay and we found our way there with his confusing directions from the internet. Somehow, and I have no clue how, we managed to get off the bus at the right stop, and then two helpful Slovakian guys from the plane pointed us in the direction of the #14 tram. We then discovered that the tram we were waiting for would ...
Bratislava, Bratislava, Slovakia atlpilot36... just about tea time so as usual I headed up to the restaurant up the road. My Norwegian fellow drinker joined me for a few drinks and he was pretty impressed that the waitresses were much more friendly than usual. After telling them that we were finally leaving the next day they even kept serving us beers long after the usual last drinks. It's always refreshing to see the human side of things.
Trnava, Trnava, Slovakia budz888Nasu turu okolo Slovenska koncime stylovo - a to v kupeloch.
Trencianske Teplice, Slovakia mozi... It would be nice to hope that she'll continue with Esperanto, but unlike most of the other participants she was probably talked into going along by her teacher. And as is generally the case... her reasonable knowledge of English made progress in the language away from the classroom not so quick as it could have been. Though it must be said that she and her friend were often asking about Esperanto words so they were definitely interested.
Harmonia, Slovakia budz888... long we'd knocked that off too. Then he decided at four in the morning that he wanted to go to town. Not wanting to be a piker I said, let's go! We hadn't got very far before a couple of blokes stopped in their car to give us a lift. They knew that there'd be nothing open in town except for the corner shop that's a necessity in case someone (like us) wanted to buy beer at 4 in the morning. Once stocked up with beer we went for a ...
Harmonia, Slovakia budz888Another day to kill before the start of the Esperanto school. My hotel room seems to have no tv... so I had to find somewhere to watch the Olympics opening. It's usually the same old stuff at these openings... lots of balloons, crackers, boring speeches, cute little girls singing. But the idea of the Chinese organisers to pick the cutest girl, and then have her lip ...
Modra, Slovakia budz888... over Trencin. Walked back down to the train station and caught the 2.50pm train back to Bratislava. Arrived back at the main train station in Bratislava at about 4pm and caught the tram back down to Obchodna then walked back to the hotel. Went out for dinner at 6pm and ate at Slang Pub on the main square before walking to Tesco for more supplies then back to the hotel for the night.
Trencin, Slovakia tygaNot only is Bratislava the largest city in Slovakia, it also serves as the state capitol. Founded before the 10th century, the city was known originally as Pressburg. When Czechoslovakia was created in 1919 after World War I, the city was renamed Bratislava and made capital of the province of Slovakia. You'll see vineyards on the slopes of the Little Carpathian Mountains, where they meet the Danube River. The Austrian border is almost within ...
Bratislava, Slovakia hildeIt was a school-organized summaer camp - two weeks in the Slovakian spa curort Piestany. It was very active vacation - a lot of swimming, tennis (we won the three-school tournament in double play), table tennis and beer in the evenings. I do not rememeber the dates exactly, but if I'm correct the trip was around the middle of the 1993 summer, between the 7th and the 8th grade. At that time this spa curort appeared to be a forerunner of the ...
