Saturday we stayed around the campground most of the morning after going out for breakfast and
groceries. Played some pool with Dean in the rec room, then after Iris' nap we went to Overton Park. They had a great playground and a big dog park. Crockpot dinner (pot roast) and s’mores. Pretty good day.
... and as we get closer to downtown Memphis we spot a huge amount of people getting ready to take part in the march. The people and the police are out in force. We decide to take the opportunity to check it all out, so we find a nice spot on the sidewalk and settle in to check out the action. Early on in the march it was pretty clear which High School invested money into thier bands and which High Schools did not. ...
Monday, Oct 28 (travel day)
Arkansas still on top – I 40 E from OK to TN was super smooth, with gently rolling hills and trees on both sides of the road. Left LR this morning under overcast skies and temps in the 50's. Arrived in Tunica, MS, to party cloudy skies, temps in the 70's and high humidity. I was on a stretch of road today just south of Memphis (perhaps within the city limits) that was filthy, strewn with ...
... time for home. Emerging back onto Beale there was a distinct tension that hadn't been present before in a now at capacity space....but the bars were emptying and what emerged was some kind of ritual that to we Brits looked like a giant game of British Bulldogs as the two rival sets of fans seemed happy to just stand on each side of the road looking at each other.....bizarre and definitely time to ship out!
Sunday re-ignited the shall we / shan't ...
... merchandise. We were picked up by this hilarious cab driver who had us in fits the whole trip, dropped us and then about an hour later came back and collected us, resulting in yet another hilarious trip back to the hotel.
We did visit some interesting places on the tour - some are named above and should also include St, Judes Children's Hospital which was built by Danny Thomas, the director of "I love Lucy". ...
