Van Gough and Eiffel

... The former design is very apparent when you walk in and see a large clock hanging over what once was the main entrance. It’s really neat! (see pictures) The first floor consists of some lesser-known French artists, so we kinda skimmed them. I have little to no background in French art, so I had very little chance of knowing any of those artists.

After the first floor, we dashed up to the second and third floors to see ...

... out...its ALL the silly tourists gathered around her taking her picture!!! Next day we finished off our museum run by hitting up The Musee D'Orsay. We did an audio tour and learned all about the impressionists painters Monet, Van Gogh, and even saw Whistler's Mother!! I love Paris even when it's below freezing.

... to the museum of Natural History there, and I had a horrible case of explosive diarrhea. That was brought on by the lapin I consumed the night before. I didn't KNOW I was eating rabbit! I just ordered the special of the day....I had just been tear-gassed for God's sake! I only wanted wine and well...wine. I got the house special just to avoid reading and translating. Much to ...

The Road to Musee Rodin

... especially after lunch. We continued to walk the grounds and snap photos. It was a beautiful day for walking around gardens with statues. But we found out later there are much more beautiful gardens to be had in Paris, and most of the time we spent here was wasted. But it was nice to sit the few times we were able to. My feet were starting to get blisters =(. It was then that it hit ...

Chaim Soutine at the Pinacotheque de Paris

... will improve for future exhibitions, however the depth and breadth of the Soutine exhibition was certainly worth the annoyances. The questions the show presented--was he mad, is his art specifically "Jewish" in nature, can only be answered by the viewer. I came away sure that the man was at least depressed or manic--his colors and his vision alternated dramatically between the beautiful and grostesque...but isn't that what Expressionism was to become?

... of photography. It was an exhibition of the work of a guy called Steve McCurry who shoots mainly from asian and middle-eastern countries. Some of the pics are stunning, you might even recognise a few of them (especially of the afgan girl with the crazy eyes). His pics are all well worth a look, at www.stevemccurry.com and http://artchic.com/photographe/steve-mc curry/index.htm. My fav is the first one from the sri lanka gallery.

C'est Magnifique!

... out that they all are!). Basically, we were in the north east part of central Paris - by walking south we hit the Louvre, and walking north took us to Sacre Coeur. So we had two and a half days to explore the city - what to do first???? We decided to wander about to try and get our bearings, so we walked down to the Place de la Concorde to see how long the Champs Elysees really was. We realised by this stage why the English don't like the French. Honestly, if ...

Notre Dame, Eifel Tower and Croissants

... reminiscent of my time in China. In addition to the crowds the high prices of this city have turned me off Paris and I'm now counting down the hours for my train trip to Barcelona, where I'm sure to encounter further crowds. Where do all these people come from and where on earth is all the cash coming from to fuel this boom in tourism? Anyway my research on this region has come to fruition with August being the busiest month of the year in Europe ...

24 Hours in Paris - Part III

... a hobbit returning to The Shire. I even merrily hummed to myself at certain points. Of course, along the way, I reminded myself that Hemel has a population of about eighty thousand, which is similar to Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, which was about forty-five minutes by car from where I grew up. I would not think of trying to cross Red Deer on foot and for all I knew, there might be other tall buildings in Hemel that I hadn't seen. It is fairly spread out in some areas ...
