Heading to Spain

... supposed to be leaving in 10 minutes, but there still was no posting where the train was. Merima asked an agent in the train station, and that's when we realized daylight savings time had already taken place, so we were an hour early. We went and got a coffee and could not get over the fact no one told us the time was changing. Oh well, it was better than being an hour late. So we had to get to the airport in a town called Beauvais. In order to get to ...

Auvers-sur-Oise... Friends, Wine, Lunch & Van Gogh

... of Auvers-sur-Oise. It was the final home of Vincent van Gogh. Here he painted: The Church at Auvers; Wheat Field with Crows; Daubigny's Garden and Thatched Cottages by a Hill... to mention a few. He stayed in an upper room at the Ravoux Inn... where he died in July of 1890 at age 37. Sad to say... this ended our Adventures in Europe...

WEekend in Paris

... friends might want it. We spent a while chatting and went out to a club in Paris that night, which was REALLY fun! Then, Saturday we did our main touristy things. We started our 'historical paris walk' at Notre Dame. WE then went to the Deportation MEmorial, then Ile de Cite (which was a small island in Paris right next to Notre Dame). We then went to the Latin Quarter, which was my favorite and we HAD to get a crepe while we were there ...

Chateau Visits

... walk out onto the street to find yourself in a street full of pouring rain! Today the group went to visit a few chateaus, so I got to see this cycle all day long...teasing sky, light sprinkle, dark and dreary, pouring rain, bright sunny rays, cloudless sky, clouds roll in and then go back to sprinkling...ominous looking, then rain. The Chateau de Chantilly is located in one of the largest forests near Paris, Le Massif de Trois Forets. The chateau holds one of the finest museums of ...

Gerberoy- a village saved by artists

I have always been interested in France. Also in the most beautiful villages of France. One of them is Gerberoy. Close (300 km./180 miles) to my home we went to visit it. It was desolated and abandonned until Henri-Eugene le Sidaner decided to reside there. He was a painter and other artists came and restored the village to its beauty it is now.

The Colossus of Beauvais

Dark and beautiful, she shot up from the ground like a shadowy mountain, her spires defensive s*************e.  In the tranquility of the low buildings of this midday town her presence is surreal, as if pertaining to some ancient fantasy world of dark artists and minxes. She is a serious temptress, luring souls in like a siren ...

What time is it?

So we woke up and I asked the receptionist how long does it take/how do you get to Beauvis airport... she said "first you take the RER into Paris then a Bus to the airport, about 3 hrs." Just about the exact time we need if we left now. "Katie, we gotta MOVE ...

Last day in Paris - The Louvre and Eiffel Tower

... Louvre and went to the Eiffel Tower one more time. The Louvre was huge, but the outside was really cool with the pyramid and all. We then went back to the Eiffel Tower. I love just looking at it. It is so amazing - I think I took like 50 pictures of that alone. After that we headed back to the hostel to pick up our luggage and go to the train station. We ended up having to take four cabs for the 8 of ...

Caen to Giverny to Paris

... snacks in our room, watching CNN and taking a nap. Later, we'll walk around a bit, look for food (hopefully) and see the Eiffel Tower. Ah - a little after 11:00. We did find food though many places in the area were closed. Had a nice Chinese food dinner for only 12,40 euro. (Of course I'm hungry again now...what is it with Chinese food?) Walked to the Eiffel Tower - it's very big though I expected the Champs du Mars park to be bigger. Tons of people selling junk at ...
