... return (or a very long return!) we found ourselves going down a stony, narrow, uneven pathway that had turned into a torrent! And thunder was rumbling round overhead. Thank goodness for sticks! We didn't die or even fall, but made rather slow and careful and very wet progress, and are now here in our hotel for 2 days!!! Our room is at the very top of the hotel - sloping walls and dormer windows and ...

... go wrong here really. It is so peaceful being entirely in such small towns and so far removed from all the hustle and bustle. By the way we were totally wrong about the size of Espalion - it is less than a tenth the size of Le Puy, it just felt big to us when we finally came into civilisation after being so long up in the wilderness that day!! Well, it was breathtakingly beautiful - we ascended and walked along the top of the world, now the terrain looking more mountainous. We got chatting to a French couple, as my camera now says "midi-Pyrenees", and I know we were in the Massif Central in Le Puy, but he said that it is correct, that areas change quite rapidly.... Well, all went just beautifully, and we were declaring it the ...

... far - everything worked easily - water pressure and temperature!!! In winter it is very snowy round here by the look of post cards and photos round the place. And a skiing area too....hard to imagine now. Dinner here in the hotel. Should be good, very friendly people. People always ask where we come from and it is always good to be Australian! Much preferable than English in French eyes!!! And they are always amazed at how far we have ...
