Having said that it is actually a strikingly beautiful building dominated by a wonderfully grand double helix stair case inspired by Leonardo da Vinci.

We enjoyed the cycle in the grounds and back to St Dye some 8km away.

Camping for free in a magical place. Just like being at home but surrounded by 2000 years of history. Biking is a delight on dedicated roads, way safer and superior often to the main road. A swim was great and these camp sites have very few bugs ...

... everything just flashed by! Still lovely though.

Made all our connections, with an hour break in Tours, so we went out for a short walk. From what we did see, the best place was the railway station, which was very ornate.

Back to Bayeux and making dinner, even though I wondered if I had forgotten how to cook (steak, vegetables and salad!) then off to bed!

... to visit Hotel Groslot (known for its opulence) but there was wedding party just arriving. The day was overcast and there were a few light showers at times. I returned to the hotel late afternoon and the sun appeared so opened the curtains and laid on the bed enjoying the sun and reading news and emails. ... and it went around so much faster. There was a constant steam of people buying their produce - and quite a few on bikes - even in line with their bikes. I returned to the hotel with raspberries and blackberries. These were perfect as I had only snacked on nuts for lunch. Ice cream would make them even better. OMG - the hotel receptionist recommended a place to eat and I did think the menu looked ok until I say duck gizzard and goat dung - I went next door and had vegetarian ...
