    Day 49. 17th June 2015. Nantua

Nantua. The Alps. Aire lots of close fitting bays. Good free services but cramped bays. Lovely position. It has a lovely lake and a beautiful memorial! That's it really. The poor old town has had some Euro coins thrown in to try and pick it up from its failing state. The lakeside and port are lovely. It's in a fantastic valley and has to have once been a great bustling town. It has history. It was indeed a real strong hold for the resistance durning World War II. So much ...

The day began with a number of hills, although plenty of downhill stretches as well. Through wine country. An early stop for coffee then we were cycling on an old railway line with a very smooth seal surface. Largely flat, although closer to Cluny there were a few hills. A stunning view of a hilltop chateau where we took many photos. Shortly after ...

Day 3 Blase to St Amour-Bellevue, 38 kms

Stunning Beaujolais wine country today. Our cycling through vineyards was spectacular. Several very steep hills followed by downhill stretches. The best cycling yet. A picnic lunch at a small cafe - a nice salad. Ready for it after a very long steep hill, several hours after breakfast and thereby low on energy. After lunch a short trip to the Beaujolais vineyard appellation bonnet, followed by a short but steep climb to ...

Waked the streets of Lyon in the morning. Some very good shopping, however being Sunday, everything was closed in the time we were there. Metro to Gare Part Dieu, then caught the Ter to Meximieur, and from there took the bus to the hilltop village of Perouge. This weekend they were holding their medieval fest, and people were wandering around in medieval costume. Checked in to our hotel in the middle ...

... below him :-/ . Arrived at the site around 4pm having stopped once more to refill on French Goodies, lovely quiet site with huge pitches we were pretty glad to have found the supermarket before arriving as that meant once we were set up we could relax. Very humid tonight so we just had a BBQ and chilled reading and chatting. On to the Ardeche tomorrow. Oh and the mosquitoes are ...
