Hello all! I am now in one of the most beautiful places ever - the region of the norwegian fjords. I'm trying to think of any adventures we've had since I last checked in. We did what is supposed to be one of the most beautiful train rides in northern europe. We went from Oslo to Myrdal first, and we were very thrilled (especially Jason) that there was no room in 2nd class so we got to sit in the Komfort class (with a capital K). For the first time we didnt sweat like pigs on a train ride. It...

Lunde, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway tengen... was a mad rush as all these tourists jumped off to get their hands on snow for the first time - myself included!!<br><br>What was it like? Well, since it was the start of summer all the snow was really just like mushy ice and not fluffy or powdery like I imagine it would be when it first falls. Still, that's good enough for someone who hasn't seen real snow before :-) it was also surprising how warm the air was even with all the snow about (as you ...

Balestrand, Western Fjords, Norway ggtort... shrinking. There was a sign indicating where the snout had been in 1800, and it was at LEAST 200 metres back from the snout's position today. And the valley is ENORMOUS. Damn you, global warming, damn you to hell. I'm bored of writing now, I may add more later, but I'm tired and I'd like to sleep haha some pictures are from a little trip to Tysnes we took to stay for a few days on an honest to god Norwegian farm haha. It was greeaaat.
Førde, Norway how-absurd... board and up the rest of the way to the Vatnahalsen Hotel, and a brief stop for waffles with fresh raspberry preserves and cream, coffee and tea. The trip to the hotel was about 45 to 60 minutes of pure enjoyment. After wolfing down my waffles, I went out exploring since we had about 40 minutes or so before the train returned and we started back down the valley to Flam and the ship. I walked a ways following a sign to the Tavern, but stopped because the ...
Flam, Norway ohiolairWow, Norway just keeps getting better. Balestrand is a fantastic little place amidst the fjords. I took a boat from Bergen and went along through Sognefjord, Norway's longest, deepest fjord. Along the way were stupendous waterfalls, massive walls of granite and picture perfect farms and houses. The photos are stunning, I just don't have the ability to load them on this computer - but it's free so I'm updating... I loved this place. I hiked up the mountain ...
Balestrand, Norway charmedlife... where the power station was. There are 4,484 steps rising about 740 meters. Not to be deterred, Jacquie and I hopped off of the ferry at Flørli, strapped on our 50 lb backpacks and headed up the stairs. These averaged a width of about 12 inches and in places were so steep that we were using hands and feet as if we were climbing a ladder. It took us about 1 hour and 40 minutes without a break to get to the top. We had great views all along the climb until about step number ...
