We were a little uncertain and at first glance we could see this would be great. Situated right at the fjord with chairs for sitting, the hotel staff was friendly, the rooms very nice and breakfast excellent with cold cuts, great bread, fruit etc.

There was some discussion yesterday of when we needed to get up in order to make it to the train on time this morning. While headed to supper last night, Sally had us walk to the train station, time the walk, and then buy our tickets. OK Sally objects to this wording. No, she did not insist. She did it like a school teacher, Don’t you think …

... saddens me a bit. The stop at Stalheim was a totally different story. Thankfully, my appetite for fjords was still growling, because the view from here is mind-blowing. In fact, we were looking down upon Naeroyfjord, another UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its natural beauty. Back in the bus for a short while until we reached Gudvangen. The bus dropped us off at the port and we hiked about a mile through the tiny hamlet of Gudvangen to our cabin. I noticed one ...

According to Conde Nast Travel magazine, the room in the hotel with the best view and that warranted its inclusion in their list of top 50 views is room 324. We stayed in... room 323! I'm sure a metre or two does not make much of a difference and it is easy to see why the magazine thought so highly of the view. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing ...

... problems were solved as the wine flowed and we all had a really good time. It was still light outside when we realised it was almost midnight and that we'd better get some rest for tomorrow. Mieke had a small accident whilst brushing her teeth. She almost lost an eye when she walked into a dead branch close to our tent. A nasty cut in her eyelid and bark in her eye meant that we first had to sort that out before going to sleep. Hopefully it looks better ...
