57 Main Road Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa, (27-28)-312-2513
... A bit of an incongruous place. Set amongst amazing rock formation and with 42 degree water spouting from carved chimpanzees into it’s pools, the buildings and set up were more like Butlins including having to wear coloured wristbands to prove we had paid.

Internet access is a bit sporadic so we have not been able to update our photos but hope to have some with the next instalment maybe even some of the whales, so far the best views have seem ...
Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa fairnie... with a tender ostrich steak (what else?!). Awesome day.

Another highlight from this stretch was paragliding. I did a tandem jump in Wilderness, who knew running off the side of a hill would be so much fun? The guy let me do two since they weren't busy and now I'm hooked and want to look into doing a course in the UK - anyone want to join me? I think I've found one for about 600GBP in Surrey.

After a quick stop in Mossel Bay to ...
Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa jojoportobelloThe original plan was to drive our rental car to Jo'burg and then fly home, but we ran out of time. So we had to make our way back to Cape Town and buy a flight from there to Johannesburg. On the way back to Cape Town we stopped back in Hermanus and went out on a whale boat. We saw a Southern Right whale lobtailing. When whales lobtail they flip over their tail out of the water ...
Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa kytravels... in Cape Town just in time for dinner at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. A beautiful port area with shops, restaurants, and Christine's office! She really has a tough life here it seems like. We eat at a place called Belthazar's (www.belthazar.co.za) and I destroy kebabs of kudu, gemsbok, wildebeest and eland before helping Christine and Jen with some springbok and baby kingklip ...
Hermanus, South Africa madman96... home while their women walked behind them...an amazing reality of life there compared to my western country. Now that I am finished reading about your african adventures I doubt that anything else I read about others' adventures in far more civilized countries will ever be as thrilling as yours. I wish you the best of luck and pleasure on your next and every other journey you take. Betty ======================================= ================
Cape Town, South Africa dcm... to see any. Our only whale sighting was in a nearby town where we saw a large southern right whale mother and calf floating about a fifty yards off shore. On the other hand, we've seen plenty of fluffy rock hyraxes (large rodents that look like cat-sized, grey hamsters) sleeping on the rocky shore. Visiting a nearby penguin colony was also pretty entertaining. Hermanus is packed with South African families vacationing during the Christmas school holiday. We ...
Hermanus, South Africa globedecker... the red brake/fog lights of a few dozen cars on one side, the headlights of cars coming in the other direction, and the inevitable yellow indicators showing the overtaking paths - pretty cool. It's also great for indoor shots by candle-light, fire works and a host of other scenarios. I went to the camera shop expecting to pick up my 25 rolls of free expired professional slide film, and they'd given it all away! I was ...
Cape Town, South Africa dcmHi! So yes-Today I went Shark Cage diving:) and it was crazy! There were about 12 of us taken out on the boat into the ocean-the ride of which was quite rough I must add. When we reached our destination, the crew dropped anchor and the dive master began giving us the dirt on the dive. How it works: The crew starts chumming (throwing fish guts/blood into the water)and also throws out a huge piece of tuna out that is tied to a buoy. A rectangular shaped cage is ...
Hermanus, South Africa jaimegirl... and keeps everyone entertained. She has a very beautiful singing voice. The meal consisted of a bean dish and a green salad. She also brought out a large baked traditional Xhosa bread. It was about 20 inches in diameter and at least a foot high. Audrey, Mame Fefe and her sister Stay tuned for our last few days in Cape Town and our final goodbyes to Africa.
Cape Town, South Africa audreyandjack... anyone to go with me. I knocked on a few doors but had no luck so I decided to return to the pier and find out which cruise was on the brown sailed older looking boat. On my way off the ship I ran into Jill and asked her if she wanted to come with me. She said she'd come see which one we wanted to go on, since one left at 16:30 and it was 16:15. We went over and found out that both were available on the brown sailed ship so we decided to go on the sunset cruise, the lady gave us a ...
