... statues, children's fun park and a zoo. Yep!.. In one enclosure you could see a Zebra, Llama and a goat along side a statue of Lenin or Stalin. Crazy stuff. We had a look around the fun park and found a playground with the usual seesaw, merry-go-round and of course a fun Smiths Machine for kids. It was a metal structure with a gap that allowed a bar to slide up and down. The thing was at least 40kgs. No wonder east Europe does well at sports, they start them young here. The ...

One thing that Latvia does not have a shortage of, is holidays. While we Dutch have to make do with celebrating Liberation Day once every five years, Latvians thoroughly celebrate their Re-Independence every year. And if the 4th of May is on a Sunday, like it was this year, you celebrate extra on Monday. That, plus Labour Day and a mandatory bridge day, gave us a whopping 5-day weekend!
