I wish we knew more about Michael's father's history, but he did not talk much about his past, and what he did share was vague and often contradictory.

... took a well deserved nap before getting ready for the night that lied ahead of us. We got drinking after our nap. We got a few new people in our hostel that day so we were talking to them and trying to pursued them to come out. ... and placing crosses there. When they did anyway, the hill was bulldozed and barbed wire put up around it. But this still didn’t stop the crosses from appearing. It was this reason for than anything that I wanted to see the hill. Today, there are over 200,000 crosses of all sizes on the hill. People come from the world over to place a cross.
