... city was run down, poor with dilapidated, ugly apartment buildings, no maintenance, no upkeep. I knew my hotel, Kempinski, is across the Cathedral Square so every time I saw a church I got scared. There are so many churches here! We did not know what to expect from the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius. As the bus came into the city we saw that it was nestled in hills around the confluence of the Neris and Vilnia rivers. Our taxi whisked us from the bus station to our Old Town hotel very quickly through the thin Sunday traffic.
