The Baiyoke Sky Hotel is a bit of an enigma. Whilst the room we had was absolute first rate - huge, tastefully decorated and with all the amenities one could request, offering a much needed sanctuary from the madness and pollution of Bangkok. The lobbies, lifts and restaurants were of an equal standard, as was the service. However, on the other side of the coin, the pool area was shabby and more befitting of a two star hotel and the bar on the 84th floor was more akin to a tired student bar than what one would expect in a top class hotel. A real waste of Bangkok's tallest structure.

Historical Traveler Reviews Baiyoke Sky Hotel Bangkok

Amazing hotel - a must stay in Bangkok

I stayed at the Baiyoke Sky Hotel in Sept 04 for 4 days, with my wife on our anniversary, at check in we were instanly upgraded to a deluxe room.

The room was massive, with a breathe taking view and very clean. The bathroom was fit for a king , a very large shower and nice bath tub. The swimming pool was a reasonable size over looking other hotels. I was very impressed with the buffet breakfast in the morning it was overlooking Bangkok , a large variety of food was availble. Staff were very helpful. The lifts were extremly fast. A stone throw away are all the shops and markets for great bargains. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone ie. couples, family ,large groups. This hotel can be seen for miles around , i would definatly go back and spend much longer there.

          Cheats at the Front Desk!

We wanted to tip but did not have monies in smaller denominations so we requested for the cashier to provide smaller ntoes for the $1000 baht we gave. All we had in return was $500 baht. When we highlighted that we had the wrong change, the cashier raised her voice. At the end of it, the cashier was left to tally the monies alone to proof that she was right, and obviously, she claimed that the cash tallies. (ie, she did not keep that extra $500 baht).

We are sure we handed $1000 baht as it was 3.30am in the morning and we went there straight from the airport with only monies in thousand denominations. We even had the receipt to proof that.

The next morning, I approached the mgr at the front desk about the issue, he was totally defensive about the whole issue. He said that he saw that my guest handed a $1000 baht, after pursuing and threatening him that if he dared say he saw it when he didnt (according to my guest he wasnt present when the money was given to the cashier), I will definitely take this matter all the way up to the GM, he changed his words, then he defended saying that he was next to the cashier when she counted the money.

Point is, if the cashier deliberately kept the money, it is obvious that if she is left to count the money, she is not about to say "Hey! The $500 is here, I made a mistake"!

This is an obvious case of cheating, backed by the mgr.

After this incident, we witness another screaming guest, this time over monies that had been paid and the staff claimed he didnt......

It is a pity to have a perfect hotel with staff who cheats on their guest and that totally spoilts it all.

Nice hotel with great access to bargain shopping!

Baiyoke Sky Hotel is a nice place to stay in Bangkok especially when you're looking for bargains (clothes, bags, shoes, etc.). There's a market just a few steps away from the hotel and a small mall in front of it. Pratunam Market is just a couple of minutes away (by walking) from the hotel. The hotel was accessible because we can drop-off our buys from the market to our room and go back again to shop for more! It was also a couple of minutes away from Pratunam Complex, World Trade Center, Gaysorn, and Big C. There were taxis and tuk-tuks in front of the hotel, so transportation is not a problem.

Our room was big and clean, so was the bathroom. The windows needed cleaning, though. Otherwise, the view from the room was great. Breakfast was okay with different choices (American, Continental, Chinese, Japanese). View from the Observatory Deck was breathtaking. Staff were friendly and courteous.

I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to go bargain shopping.

          Baiyoke Sky Hotel - great!

My boyfriend and I, both 21 stayed here for 5 nights. I was suprised how great the Baiyoke was since I hadnt read many reviews on it. As well as being a landmark building (because of its towering size over the rest of Bangkok), it was a great hotel. We were instantly upgraded to the 67th floor and our bedroom and bathroom were huge and spotless. When you step outside the hotel doors your in the chaos of markets, traffic etc, but its heaven for shoppers. The view was amazing, especially at night. The tour operator in the lobby was very good and the dining areas were exquisit. I would most definatley return here!

          Great Veiws

We had a very pleasant stay in this hotel. It is a stunning building from the outside and the veiws of the city are superbe. There is a revolving walkway on the top 88th floor which is an interesting feature and provides lovely warm breezes in the evening. The resteraunt on about 78th floor is a buffet style with an enormous choice of foods from all around the world. This goes for breakfast and dinner which is half price after 8 pm. We found the staff plentiful and polite. We were offered a smoking or non-smoking room. I enjoyed my stay and would go there again.

          Don't go there anymore

It was our second stay there - we like the area Patunam and the lovely sight you have but we've noticed that they make absolutely no effort to keep the hotel up to 4star standard. Last time already a couple of things were dirty and broken - this year it was even worse. It really looks like as absolutely nobody feels responsible to keep simple things in order.

What disappointed us the most was the lousy service that is absolutely untypical for Thailand as we know it. Except the woman who was cleaning our room (funny but she spoke the best English!) everybody else had problems to understand what we were asking for - even simple things. When we checked in nobody felt the need to ask if we mind to stay in a smoker room.

The breakfast was extremely lousy- the restaurant, table everything most of the time dirty. Absolutely not 4star! Again very untypical for Thailand - the lousy service.

We will not stay there another time.

I would love to come back!

Just came back from Thailand. We wanted to stay at the Amari Watergate but our tour operator can't get a booking so ended up in Baiyoke Sky and I must say it was well worth the price! The rooms were clean and spacious, as well as the bathrooms with amenities such as a hair dryer and even ear buds! The room also had a safe to make sure valuables are out of "temptation's" way. The lobby situated at the 18th floor had staff who were ready to assist with a smile.

The buffet breakfast at the 77th floor was excellent with a wide array of choices from American, Chinese, Japanese, even Muslim and Indian. My cousin from the US particularly loved the roti cooked fresh jsut right after you ask for it. There was also a bread toaster for those who want the assortment of breads warm! The view was nice and the staff were friendly, prompt and attentive.

The hotel's location was also great considering that shops abound at the ground floor and on the streets across it. They remain open until 10 pm even! Also one can walk and find more shops and stalls along the way. We were set to go back home on a Sunday, went out to shop some more and were delgihted to find out that the street across is closed off on Sundays so that merchants can sell more items! If you want to buy more stuff, you don't need to go far!

Also, taxis and tuk-tuks abound! There was also a money changer nearby with better rates. Another was at the ground floor of the hotel, very convenient.

We want to go back to Bangkok again because we felt 4 days and 3 nights were short especially for bargain shopping. Sure, there are other hotels nearby but we would love to stay at Baiyoke Sky again. Highly recommended!

          Huge rooms, great views

We eally liked this hotel. The views from the top are unbelievable, especially when eating breakfast in the morning. The breakfasts themselves are fantastic, with the biggest choice I've ever seen - British, American, Indian, Chinese, Thai food all available and plentiful.

We were actually upgraded 2 levels and the room was HUGE, as was the bed.

Its by no means as luxurious as some of the top-end hotels in Bangkok, but was really nice and very clean.

Location isn't amazing, but its only 20 mins walk to the nearest sky-train station, and you can browse in the markets along the way. Having said that, its pretty central so you're never too far away from any of the main parts of the city which you might be if you stayed at Sukhumvit or near the Kho San Road. And the tuk-tuks and taxis are so cheap it doesn't matter.

Staff were very friendly. Would definitely recommend, and would love to return.

A cheap but very big room with a huge bathroom. Fruit left for us was nice. The free sky walk is great. Very clean. Location not the best but it is still easy to get about from here. Highly recommended

          Terrible Hotel

I stayed at this hotel in June 2000.

It was cheap but the location isn't particularly nice and there isn't much to do in the vicinity. The accomodation was reasonably clean but basic.

That was the good news. The bad news was that I had money stolen from my room (by the cleaner). The cleaner admitted taking the money (after the hotel management had suggested that perhaps I had a prostitute in the room, and that she had stolen it!!!) but claimed she thought it was a tip!!! I'm generous but $200 is a bit over the top. Management refused to do anything and advised me to always take my money with me in future - they were downright rude.

There are many hotels in Bangkok, at very good prices. Don't waste your time or your money on this one.
