... the train stopped and we got off and had a wander round the train to look at the engine and walk to the lake’s edge. The challenge had been set for anyone to take a dip and two did, Arlene a slightly wacky Australian lady and of course Neil, the doctor. We had a paddle and it

Wednesday 23rd July

Interesting night on the train. After watching another lovely sunset at about 10.30pm, decided it was time to get ready for bed, especially as we had to be up at 5am in order to get off at our next stop, Irkutsk, at 5.30am. Trouble was, the train had a scheduled stop at about 12am for half an hour, and as we both had stuffy noses (yes, Allan succeeded in passing his germs onto me, unfortunately), and had a bit of trouble getting ...

Sledding Today we had a bit of excitement, we went dog sledding. We each had our own team of dogs plus an instructor and went for a 20km run through the woods which took just over an hour by which time, even with more layers than described below our extremities were frozen. The dogs charge along although my team seemed a bit deaf when it suited them. They ignored my "leftie" and "brown" which seems to be left and right in Russian (perhaps it's ...

... of us soon interrupts the calm though as the first 4km(ish) are up a steep incline. At the top, the hill is covered in snow and the temperature drops fairly significant as we drop onto the other side of the hill where there is no snow. There is a wonderful view over the lake shortly after we reach the top of the hill, before we start descending into a valley on a footpath, excavated by the volunteers, that snakes it's way down the hill. That is going to be hideous on the way back! ...
