Sicily never fails to amaze with its ancient monuments. Segesta and Selinunte were a fascinating day trip. Both were built around 400 centuries BC, the earliest and most important Greek colonies in Sicily.

... of serious neglect. Meandered through the old section of town, passed the cathedral and various churches and came across some ruins, exceptional information in multiple languages. Stopped for a coffee which expanded into lunch, and then, had to try the ricotta cake. Made by the owners wife who had come out to discuss the dolce. There went the healthy eating plan!

Well, I lied. We didn't cruise around the Egadi Islands but we did cruise the Mediterranean. We set off from a pretty little fishing port called, Castellammare del Golfo (big name for a little town). We hugged the coast (mainland), cruising through the Zingaro Marine Nature Reserve, past the village of Scopello (on my itinerary for next visit to Sicily) and the faraglioni rocks to the very touristy town of San Vito Lo Capo.

... that if I want to get to Castellammare del golfo itself in order to get the bus to Palermo, I would need to walk two hours and/or hitch a ride. Or I could wait till Saturday where there may or may not be the chance for a lift.

The busses for Palermo are few and far between, set up for the working people, so I had a choice of 6am, 6.30am, 7am ,7.30am or 5pm! So I set my alarm for 5am and started the walk... If someone picked me up early then ...
